Hi all,

So after trying a few rings out at Tiffany + other shops, my soon to be fiancee is convinced that she does not want a traditional solitaire e-ring and prefers an eternity ring as an engagement ring. She's not much of a jewelry person and feels uncomfortable wearing something that calls out for attention.

Anyway, I've been doing some shopping but I'm in need of some advice. My parameters are the following:
-Budget: $30,000
-Diamond Shape: Radiant (preferred), or Round
-Color: G or better
-Clarity: VS1 or better
-Setting: Platinum. Also, I believe she likes the U-Shape or Scalloped? I'll have to double check
-Carat total weight: 7+
-Ring Size: 6

Most of the radiant rings I've seen at this carat total weight and matching color/clarity are over 30k, some as high as low 40s. Also, they tend to have about 16-18 diamonds all around when I look at size 6 rings.

However, looking at loose diamonds on Blue Nile, etc. I see that Radiant diamonds of 40-50 point weight with high color/clarity (most better than my parameters) are roughly around $900-1,100 each. Which would put it at approximately a bit under 20k for just the diamonds (assuming it's 18 diamonds all around).

My question is, can I get a ring with my desired specs and stay within my budget? Is the labor and band from a jeweler being over 10k after the diamonds normal? Seems really steep to me but I'm just getting started with the process! Any help is welcome :)

You may want to consider a half or 3/4 eternity ring, for future sizing. Also, I would prefer round, well cut diamonds as you would get more sparkle! Try other vendors, whiteflash, CBI and you can also try ID Jewelry. Good luck!
