Hi everyone, I''m a longtime lurker and sometimes poster who is head over heels in love with cushion cuts!
30.gif
And I have a question for all you experts.

Would it be possible to find a beautiful, well cut cushion diamond in the 1.1-1.5 ct range that''s in the $6k range? I am ok with going down in clarity and color, but not cut. Is this an impossible quest? Any input and help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
GB

For sure! Are you more drawn to the chunky ones or the more modified ones?

That reminds me CR I need to try to get a picture of mine to show you the chunkiness! I know you''d appreciate it. It''s no where near as

as yours but its nice for its size. I can''t wait until I get one as big as yours

Oooh, gorgeous ring, LegacyGirl!

I plan to put my cushion in a halo setting too. LOVE that look!

CrookedRock, I''m definitely drawn to chunkier cushions! But other than what appeals to my eye, I really have no idea what to look for.

YES! YES! More pics please!!! I love your ring, it turned out fabulous, and I could tell it was chunky, but give me some pics to drool over! My bf took all my design sketches away, and I can''t possibly look at my pics any more! GIve me something here!

The ring with the halo gives you amazing finger coverage. I would bet it is wider than mine will be... What size finger do you have?
PS... If I could ever convince the bf that I needed to upgrade (yah right he''d ever go for that) I''ll sell it to ya!

Glitterbug~ Here are a few examples, and Mark can source each of these stones for you if you chose to call him. Also think about rectangular vs square and culet size...

Here are a few:

very rectangular

Just a few examples to show you that they are out there! Is this going to be for an Ering?

ETA: is the setting included in the 6k?

Oh that''s a deal!!

I''m a size 5 but I''m actually wearing a plastic ring guard because the weight of the ring is making it spin on my finger and we can''t have that
5.gif
so maybe more like a 4.75 but I prefer the rings to be a little bigger because I swell in this Florida heat and I also swell when I have a beer or wine.

Sorry for the threadjack OP!!!
Legacy girl... I think we have a match! I am a size 5 too and I had a insert put into the ring so it could get bigger if need be (I hope not though!) and I live in Fl too!

Thanks CrookedRock! Those are some nice options!

And the $6k does not include the setting, but I''d like to keep the stone around $5500 if we can. This is for my ering, and I am pretty involved in the process... will find the right stone and 3-4 settings that I like, and BF will do the rest. He still wants there to be an element of surprise!

What do you guys think is the "right" depth and table for a cushion? Or is there really no such thing?

That''s tough... Depends on what you prefer and who cut it... I have honestly seen some gorgeous shallow stones. The one I ended up with is 57% Table, 65% Depth. From I could tell as long as you kept both lower than 70 and higher than 55, it was in the right range... But you really need to see them, or trust someone else''s eye. And Mark has an eye I would totally trust!

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3662/ I LOVE this one It''s right at one carat though.

Nice! Gypsy has picked a great stone and I think w/ your budget this may be as good as you''re going to get. You can try to wait it out and find something slightly lower in color but I''m not sure you''re going to get make bigger (maybe up to 1.1ish at most).

Orlando, so we''re not too far away. Maybe sometime we can get together and have lunch... or go shopping

The depth and table of the last one you posted is amlost exactly the same as my stone. It was a great combo for us. I think it is def worth a look!

Do you have pics of your stone? I would love to see!

There are some pics in this thread. (it''s unset in the pics) They aren''t great but they really show what a chunky cushion looks like and what Mark has an eye for! I really do reccomend him for any cushion.

The coolest thing about a cushion is that not many "normal" (I say this when referring to people outside PS) people know about these cushions. All my friends that saw these pics thought that we bought the most rare diamond in the world. Far from the truth, but we love it, and it does stand out bc they are so unique.

CrookedRock, your stone is gorgeous and fabulous!!
30.gif
Wear it in good health!

I totally agree with you... lots of people have no idea what a cushion is. That''s part of the reason why I''m drawn to them too... the uniqueness! Oh, and of course their beauty too!
9.gif
hehe

glitter, where do you live? I''m just curious because in NY and CA I see plenty of cushions nowadays. Not necessarily great cut stones, but they''re getting quite popular around these parts!

Surfgirl, that''s funny -- I''m in L.A.! But I often venture south so I feel more like a Socal girl than simply an L.A. girl. What about you?

I have just one friend with a cushion though. Everyone else has RB''s. In a perfect world I would find a gorgeous older stone like the one in your avatar!! I was in La Jolla a few weekends ago and stumbled upon the most amazing rings at a store there. Love!!
30.gif
They were a bit out of my price range, though, so cushions will have to do for now.

Glitterbug, if you are in LA and interested in older cuts too, you should take a look at Nobel Gems off the Promenade 1412 Forth Street - haven''t been there lately but they had a fantastic selection when Kcoursolle and I were last there.

Wow, thank you for that tip! I will definitely check them out!

Do they have loose stones too? I always thought it would be difficult to find a great older stone, but it''s probably worth the extra time and research. THANKS!!

You live in LA and you haven't been to Single Stone? Shame on you! Go!

What store were you in when you were in La Jolla? Probably the place where I got my ring...?

ETA: Most people I know personally dont have cushions but they've been married a while now. But I speak with people in the industry regularly and it seems like commercially, the cushion is being marketed a lot more now, even in BM stores.

Also, if you like old stones and the cushion look, you may want to look at OECs too. Very similar look, only round. Or OMCs...they're usually cushion shaped. What am I saying?! They're basically the original cushion...duh.

ROFL!

No Glitterbug, they are more of an antiquey type store - they carry a lot of older rings. Definitely worth checking out!
