Hi PSers,

First of all, I have learned so much from reading these forums. Thanks to all of you who post regularly on the ins and outs of diamonds and the diamond purchasing process.

So I am in the process of trying to figure out how to set a cushion that measures roughly 8 x 7 mm. (1.14 ratio) for a ring (finger size 6.5) Sadly no photos

, it is however a chunkier cushion brilliant.

I was hoping to garner some advice/suggestions from all of you.

1) The band, I am planning on doing a pave band but want to know is 2mm the standard? on the thin size? or can jewelers go even thinner?

2) What are people''s thoughts on the E-W settings of cushions (ala Scarlet16 and Tiger''s awesome Leon creations), does the E-W lend a modern vibe or an antique vibe?

3) Lastly I am undecided as to whether or not to add a dainty halo to the stone. Does anyone have the measurements of the average halo width (ala 2ndTimeAround''s recent ERD creation or the Winnie?) I am wondering if the halo might make it too "blingy" or if it might add just the right amount of additional finger coverage given my ring size. Are there any of you who regret the halo?

Moreover if the setting is already going to have a "donut" does having the halo add height? I am interested in having the stone set low vs. high.

Any advice/input would be appreciated, thanks!

2) What are people''s thoughts on the E-W settings of cushions (ala Scarlet16 and Tiger''s awesome Leon creations), does the E-W lend a modern vibe or an antique vibe? I love the EW settings but it purely a personal preference thing.

1) hmm, with a stone that big, you may not want to go smaller than 2.0mm. However, ritani makes a beautiful 1.7/1.8mm micropave setting. not sure if you were thinking the custom route, but lots of PSers have this ritani setting and it's GORGEOUS, i wish i could afford it for my cushion. if you're interested, it can be found on pealrman's website. they also have a lot of settings you can look at. best of luck to you!

2) i think you should find out what your future fiance's preferences are. the E-W is definitely unique and i think you have to really be in love with that style. if you do it and she doesn't like it, i think you may have to get another setting to get it N-S. i say find out what your gf wants

3) the cushion you have sounds big already! i have a similar size finger (6.0/6.25) and i will be getting a cushion that is smaller than hers. it looked great on my hand! my personal preference is to leave out the halo esp on chunky cushions b/c the halo may take away from the gorgeousness of the chunky cushion. but again, personal preference, find out what your gf likes :)
