Hi. I have been lurking here for awhile and have learned a lot! I am looking for a cushion cut and found the following at engagement rings direct. One thing I have discovered is that it is difficult to tell a cushion by it''s numbers but would appreciate any advice on the following specs. Thank you!

GIA cert.
Color F
Clarity VS2
polish exc.
symm. exc.
1.01 carats
depth 62.7
table 64
fluoro none
meas. 6.12x5.84x3.66
girdle stk-vtk
culet n/a
ratio 1.05

Also, I live in St. Louis and have had trouble finding cushions here to view in person. Anyone have any suggestions??

It''s always good to see things with your eyes. With that being said, when I was looking for diamonds and sent them to WF, they told me some of the ones I was looking at had tables that were too big. The tables were in the mid 60s, as is the diamond you have listed here. I know a few people here on PS have cushions with larger tables and love them though.

Both Mark T and Bob at WF recommended stones with tables in the 50''s (53% and 55% are my two stones) with depths in the mid 60''s (67% and 64%). Has Mark seen this stone of yours yet?

Thanks. I just really started looking, so I haven''t corresponded with Mark yet. I guess maybe my next step should be to tell him what I''m looking for and then see what he recommends?

Yes, if you are ready to make a purchase in the near future, I would recommend calling him. I will warn you, he is efficient and moves fast! Most likely he will find a stone for you within a few days, and if you like it, you''d have to make a decision pretty quickly. This can be stressful if you really aren''t ready to purchase yet, as it''s hard to "let go" of a cushion that sounds really good.

He will ask you questions on what your preferences are, then do his best to find a stone within your specifications and budget, if possible. Working with Mark is difference than a company like WF. With WF, you get lots of "evidence". With ERD, you just have to trust his eyes a bit more. I''m getting my ERD ring today for my mom, so I''ll let you know if I agree with his findings.

Just a thought...when I was shopping for my cushion, I inquired with a couple of vendors for comparison purposes with price and variety. This is a very important and expensive investment so take your time in examining each diamond and do not allow others---vendors included---to sway you to make a decision if you are not ready to do so. Its your choice, your money that is to be spent and you need to be happy about it.

With all the different characteristics of cushions in particular, you want to really study them and discover which stone rocks your world...

I agree. I went to Robbins Brothers first and looked at some of their cushions. It was the first time I had seen them in person, and none of them rocked my world. I almost decided that cushions weren''t for me.

But then I saw the "winner" when WF sent it to my appraiser. I just loved it, and it seemed like a totally different kind of stone from the Robbins Bros one. BTW, the Robbins Bros ones did all have tables in the 60s.

Also, the more you look at cushions, the different shapes, facets, etc., the clearer it will become what your preference is...more square, more rectangular...ya know, like that. I knew I wanted to not compromise on cut, so for me, that was #1. I also knew that I wanted to have a stone that faced up as white as possible, so that was #2. I also had a budget that I had to stay within, so that was #3. I ended up with a great firey stone from GOG. For my budget, it is amazing and I get alot of compliments from others on it. I went into the hunt for my cushion, knowing that this stone would be a step towards my ultimate cushion so this is not my end all diamond, but, hell, she is one great stone and that rocks my world...for now.

I ultimately want a slightly more rectangular cushion and as close to 2 carats as i can get. My current cushion is 1.21 which is not too shabby and not small compared to the .71 carat princess I came from. The depth is about 67 I think so it is deeper than I prefer, so she appears smaller for her weight than I like, but her dazzle is undeniable and the appraisal came back excellent so I am happy.

I share this with you because it took alot of intense looking. I admit it was a shorter time than I thought to find this stone, but when Jonathan at GOG told me about this diamond and I saw her...it was a "wow" moment for me. I wish that same experience--if not more--for you...
