Hello All, My GF completely changed her mind and now wants a cushion stone. Below is a link to the stone she is looking at. We want to know if this stone is good stone for its price?

Its cheap for its specs because it isn't well cut, see the suggestion for a well cut cushion by Charmypoo. If you still like the modern 4 main facet design (X in the middle) you should ask Jon or staff to find you a well cut one.

The ASET on that August Vintage looks amazing.

Hello guys, I have more question about another cushion. They just got this one in for us as well and I was wondering your take on if its a well cut diamond? The link is below:

Hi lolblows00,

The second cushion has much better optical symetry than the first cushion you posted, but a little more light leakage around the edges and in a ring around the center (white/lighter areas on the ASET and diamxray).

Knowing how to read ASET images is going to give you the best information about cushions. It tells you where a stone will reflect light from when in a face-up position. Lots of Red(light from overhead) is very good, a little green(light from sides, candle light) is good and a little blue(head/body shadow which provides black contrast) is good. light leakage (Anything not red, green, or blue) is bad.

more info here
ASET info at bottom of page

I definately think the second cushion you posted will be a prettier stone, but it may not look as large as the first stone due to the areas of light leakage - maybe keep looking?

If you are shopping at GOG, try and find a stone with a lifetime guarantee (as opposed to a 30 day guarantee)- it may serve you well in the future.

Its a nice cushion, not the best I have seen but certainly better than some out there. It depends on the level of cut quality and thus beauty and performance you want.

the 2nd one has better symmetry as she said, but the light leakage around the edges is always going to make the stone look smaller than it is

Lolblows00,

This diamond is very similar to the one my wife chose. We decided between a GOG AVC and this modern 8 main and she chose the 8 main, see my thread here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-shocking-final-diamond-choice-i-gave-to-my-fiance-which-one-would-you-pick.121154/. Now granted the 8 main was almost 0.5 carat bigger so that definitely influenced her decision.

My wife is very happy with the shape outline, the brightness and the light return of the stone. From looking at the two ASETs of ours and 6979 I can tell you the stones have similar optical performance, they are from the same cutter and perform well in office and strong spot lighting and have great brightness, fire in some lighting but not as much as the GOG AVC could and certainly less than a GOG square cushion HA. We put a Harry Wintson inspired micropave halo around it so the edges having leakage and looking smaller has never been an issue.

On the other hand being a chunkycushiolover I would have much preferred the GOG AVC if one had been available in the 1.6 Ct size which wasn't at the time. The fire and brightness under the table is really quite spectacular on these cuts as they can shoot rainbows at times. You have to decide if you like the big chunky facets and culet and the old style of the AVC or the modern facet style with more brightness but smaller flash. Keep in mind also that Old Mine Cushion cuts tend to show more body color than the modern cut stones. We viewed H colors in both side by side and the modern one faced up significantly whiter.

In my opinion you really have to see the two in person or get a video done. In strong spot lighting we found this modern type of stone brighter and more impressive, but I would expect in lower light conditions(outside, at night, candlelight) the AVC would likely be the superior performer.

I would get Jon to do a side by side video or go see them in person, make sure he takes the stones in and outside of the diamond dock and by the window and in his store spot lighting and he rotates all diamonds in his hands a full 360 degrees.

I suggest looking at the following stones:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3344/ (Square Cushion Hearts and Arrows in your size and price range)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6469/ (The August Vintage Chunky Faceted Antique Cushion)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6979/ (The modern 8 main thin)

Good-luck,
CCL
