Can you tell me the difference between a cusion modified and cushion brilliant? Facet sizes? L/W ratio? Does one of these have the ''crushed ice'' look that the other doesn''t? Obviously throwing out guesses.. :) thanks!

Try this here.

Cushion Modified Brilliants typically are the more "modern" cut with crushed ice appearance. Cushion Brilliants can be, too, but the could also be the older, antique style that is more chunky with broader facets. That first post I linked to really has a great overview of facet patterns.

L/W doesn''t have anything to do with the above - it is just the shape. Cushions can be square, rectangular, oval or even more round. L/W ratios that go towards 1.10 and higher typically look much more rectangular. The closer you get to 1.0, the squarer. But - again - they could even be more round or oval. It is all about personal preference.

Cushion modified''s will generally have an extra set of facets that extend under the girdle. These extra facets speak absolutely nothing to the appearance or beauty of a cushion though as there are cushion modified''s that absolutely stink and there are some absolute cherries that will have regular cushions for lunch. Sad fact is you can''t judge a cushion by a GIA Report even if the depth/table appear to be great.

Kind regards,
