So the GF has decided she''d rather have a cushion than a radiant. No problem - but I''m finding it hard to keep track of all the different versions. I saw the cushion FAQ posts from a while back and they helped a lot but I found this diamond with a plot I hadn''t seen before.

What kind of cushion would this be - old fashioned, crushed ice??

Thanks!

Hey Chris
I just went through a few month long Cushion search, and here is my advice - don''t rely on the plots or the numbers/stats of the stone to make a decision.

1) Cushions need to be seen by the eye to be judged (either your own, or a Cushion expert who you trust)

2) The Plot is not indicative of the cut quality - which will be the major factor in the performance of the stone.

Who are you looking for a Cushion with ?

You cannot be 100% certain with just a plot but I would say the extra facets would lead me to beleive it may be more crushed ice. Do you know if it is a cushion brilliant or a modified brilliant? But you will need to see it or at least get a picture.

Thanks

Ditto. No way to tell here.

Chris, there are different "looks" in the cushion family. You may want to find out if she has a certain look or configuration in mind, which may be easy if a friend or family member has a cushion she's been admiring specifically.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your help.

I guess my issue is that there are so many "looks". I was looking at the plot just to get a rough idea of the shape of the diamond - no one we know has a cushion (that may be the point). I''d like to narrow my search down a little before I go to Mark T. Here are a couple ones that caught my eye, the first has the plot I posted above

Cut: Cushion Modified Brilliant
Carat: 1.01
Color: H (per GIA)
Clarity: VVS1
P/Sym: VG/VG
Table: 61
Depth 68
Cutlet: VS
Girdle: Thin-Thick, faceted
Flour: No

Here''s #2
Cut: Cushion Modified Brilliant
Carat: 1.06
Color: H (per GIA)
Clarity: VS2
P/Sym: EX/EX
Table: 58
Depth 67.6
Cutlet: No

Obviously I''d need to see pics and ASETs/ISs

Thanks again,
Chris
Girdle: Th-VT faceted
Flour: FB

Hi Chris,

If you can get pictures of these diamonds, then we can go from there, otherwise no way to tell how they will look and perform by numbers. Did you particularly want VVS clarity?

I don''t particularily need VVS clarity, but I don''t mind it :)

That one is part of ERDs "premium collection" which I hope means Mark likes it.

Will work on pics
