Hello all,
New here, but as most newbies I've been reading all over. SO much information I'm not sure how much has really sunk in! I'm in search of a square cushion in the 1.2ct area. I'd like to fall in the $6/6500 range for the diamond and hoping to end up below 8 with the setting.

I currently have it narrowed down to 2 stones and I'm hoping to get your opinions of them. Unfortunately, I've been told "due to their location" I can't have a physical eval or ASET images. :(

I guess there's a 3rd... https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.20-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-2750546

It will be going into a setting like this...

Which brings me to my next question... What are your opinions of mounting cushions in a reg 4 prong vs a split prong "4 prong" I've been told due to cushions shape they are more secure with a split prong. tried to search this one out but couldn't quite find an answer.

Thanks for any guidance!!!

I would drop that 3rd stone...it looks like it has too much contrast (darkness). My preference would be for the first stone. I tend to only like double prongs on
bigger stones and your's is sort of right on the border. I think I would stick to single prong (if it were for me..but its not). You are planning on insuring
your ring right?

I don't like any of those cushions, sorry.

If I had to choose, it would be #1, but it's not my favorite.

I'd also choose #1 out of these. I think the stone can be set securely either way.

Thanks for the responses! @whitewave You say it's not your favorite, could you elaborate?
and yes of course, I plan on insuring the the ring.

I'm sorry-- I'm traveling and I sort of left you hanging there. I was concerned about the facets, but the camera might have been too close to the stone. I don't have time to look and see what I can find. Keep looking and see what else can find, but number 1 might be beautiful in person...

I love split prongs, particularly on a fairly square cushion diamond! But only if the split is two micro-fine prongs, not two regular size prongs. You could also look for pointed prongs (eagle/claw prongs?) rather than the rounded ones on the setting you linked. No idea on the security side sorry!
