Hello all. Purchasing my first cushion, and would love to hear opinions. From what I hear this diamond is eye clean, but I haven't seen in person yet. Please share opinions! It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Should I go smaller and look for G and VS2? Please help. Have to make a decision soon.

Thanks for the help! Any particular reason why? That is actually right around the price of the one in the pics. I will definitely take a look!

Ahhhh, it is sold already. I will definitely keep him in mind though.

It looks very dead in the center of the diamond by the asset images I think you can do a lot better. I see that A cut I listen from Mark is already sold but I would give him a call and see what he can do for you, he picks out some great cushions.

Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it. As for color what do you think is the lowest I should go? I was thinking either G or H, but I'm not sure. It definitely has to be eye clean so I guess a really good si1 or vs2.

If I you go with an antique cut I think you can go lower in color because they still look gorgeous

Here is a video from GOG with lower color august vintage cushions

Thanks for all the help! If anyone else has any opinions or nice stones please let me know. I will be sure to post more pics as my search continues.

Me neither.

Any particular reasons?

Incredible video. Learned a lot. I really like the hearts and arrows and antiques. The search continues.

Sorry Salty but that cushion does look like a dud...too much green which means it is not returning light well. If you look at the GOG cushion ASETS you will see what a good cushion ASET should look like.

Welcome to the wonderful confusing world of cushions, but it looks like you are on your way to learning which type you like best. I would also suggest you look at I, J, and K's J's can be the best value in diamonds and they tend to face up very white if you have a GIA or AGS graded stone...see the cushion links i posted below. The slight warmth in k's is dreamy and J's look surprisingly white set in platinum with halo's. you can't go wrong with GOG ERD or Leon Mege stones.

But to decide on how low a color is good for you I would suggest visiting some jewelry stores and look at the GIA or AGS stones in different colors. Also watch all the GOG videos on color comparisons.

Hope this helps....and good luck.

Here is a beautiful K IF for $8,300 that faces up like a 2 carat cushion...it looks lovely and I think JA will send you the ASET:
1.66c K IF awesome cushion brilliant faceting!

Here are some J's so you can see what they look like set ...read the story of the search for the 5c cushion interesting it is a J and she compares it to her E colored diamond:

I received a gorgeous ring from my DH for our anniversary. It''s my dream ring - a Leon Mege halo-ed antique-style cushion. Leon found the stone for us and I just love the facet structure and the high crown.

Specs:
5.01 J VS2
Depth 69.8%
Table 57%
Culet Large
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Good
Fluorescence None

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone!

It''s our 5th wedding anniversary, hence the 5 carat stone

Laila - thanks for adding it to the cushion thread.

jgny:
The dimensions are 9.95 x 9.61 x 6.71mm And I believe the OMC style stones face up smaller as well given their high crowns (someone correct me if I''m wrong on this). But I looked at a bunch and I vastly preferred the OMCs to the modern brilliants, plus I think this way the 5 carat isn''t too enormous (vs say a 5 carat RB).

We bought this stone from Leon just before he launched his diamond concierge service, so I don''t know if they will provide additional details now, but basically he sent me photos of the stone from all angles, set and unset and on a black and white background. No ASETs. It was rather a leap of faith to buy it without looking at it in person and without ASETs etc but at the end of the day we decided to trust his eye and we had just fallen in love with the faceting of the stone.

Before we decided on this one, we''d taken a look at stones at our local B&Ms, one who specialises in OMCs and another who flew in 5 stones from their sightholders in Israel. I''d also contacted all of the cushion specialists mentioned on this forum and gotten a stone flown out to me, though ultimately we decided not to go with that one. It is REALLY difficult to find a stone with the requirements we had (>5 carats, OMC or 8 pavillion mains, large culet, near 1:1 aspect ratio, eyeclean) and there were very few responses to our request both online and at the B&Ms. It was basically between this stone and the one that was flown out to us. Jon at GoodOldGood had offered to get an AVC cut but the prices of rough had gone up so much at the end of last year/beginning of this one, plus we didn''t want to have to wait!

So at the end of the day and after months of searching we decided to go ahead with Leon''s stone and I just love it. The J doesn''t bother me at all and mostly it looks icy white and I only notice a tiny bit of warmth very occasionally from certain angles (my e-ring is an E and there is a very slight difference but really not very much).

Leon did mention that now he''s set up this diamond concierge service that he''d rather find a good stone for his clients. He''ll still set stones from other dealers but I get the feeling that he preferred for us to buy a stone from him. Good thing we liked his stone best anyway.

Modern cushion cut 3.45c J VS2...Nice!

Salty, please supply the measurements of this cushion ...length/width and depth. table % and depth % Ideally you would want mid 60% depth % and mid 50% table % for a nice cushion. Some great cushions do have tables around 60% though. And depths can be around 60% as well, but you have to see a cushion in person to know if it performs well.

Second diamond is better but are you sure it is eyeclean? That inclusion looks pretty nasty to me.

What is the budget you are working within? I am not loving your options but if you let me know your price range .. would help find something better?

Looking to spend 11k on the diamond. Thanks!!!
