Hello,

I posted in the forum regarding cushion cut diamonds last week. I asked about 3 cushion cut diamonds and Gypsy ended up recommending a few diamonds for me. I requested the ASETs from James Allen and they told me that two were not eye clean and they recommended another two plus one that Gypsy recommend. Anyway, I received the ASETs and wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were. I attached the ASETs and the links to the diamonds. Thanks again for all your help.

I'm not a cushion expert but I do love to look at them, so take my advice with a grain of salt!!

I prefer the 2nd one - J VVS1 EX cut. It has a nice bright edge (that's the red part) and I also prefer that shape over the elongated one below it. I'd eliminate #1 as its a VG cut and not enough brightness.

But... not an expert. I'm sure Gypsy will pop in!

Visually (by pictures) I like stone #1 best. I don't like the look of stone #2, but it seems to have the best ASET. Stone #3 has the "crushed ice" effect, so it depends if you like that look in a cushion.

I'm not pro either, just giving my personal opinion.

I don't like any of them. :(

Wow they are all really bad.

I suggest checking out the cushion selection at Good Old Gold.

Agree with Girly and Julie. I'd pass on all three.

What are your wants and budget again, and what can give (carat, color, clarity) if needed?

I only recommended these because your budget was really low for what you wanted and they were the better options among a bunch of worse options. I didn't not recommend these without reservation. And I'm not at all surprised that they are underwelming.

See my comments here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/need-help-cushion-cut-color-and-cut-girdle-depth-table.179327/#post-3260200#p3260200 I was not able to recommend the stones I wanted to as they were 8k above your budget.

Context matters.

I was trying to stay around 15k for just the stone, but i am beginning to think, that may be unrealistic with regards to the stone i want. I was hoping to be around 2carats while maximizing cut, clarity and color while staying in a budget of 15K.

Thanks

Thanks, I understand.

I feel like I may want to rethink the 4 Cs w/ my budget. Before, last week I had zero knowledge of diamonds and I guess i'm learning on the fly. Should I go visit a jeweler (Philadelphia) to see them in person or are there other sites that you guys recommend.

Shopping for a large, well cut fancy can be difficult no matter what your budget is.

I really like Mark at Engagement Rings Direct for cushions. If you do keep a realistic budget in mind he might be able to help you. For the best cut you really do need 18-22k. He will also be able to provide you with a video in addition to ASETs if you ask him to (I think so anyway). Which is nice because you will see the stone in movement.

Even the one Girly posted from ERD has a lot of green in it and while better than the stones from JA, is not the best. Still it is a better choice than the JA stones (good job Girly) and should be a nice enough stone (get a video). If you want performance, you have to pay for it. It's cheap to cut stones badly to save carat weight. It's expensive to cut them right to maximize performance.

Also please note that the original budget you gave me was not 15k. It was 13.5k.

Are you shopping for your girlfriend or for yourself? If the former, has she told you what she wants?

Yes its for my girlfriend. All I knew was that she liked the cut. Knew nothing about diamonds.

Thanks again for everyone's help

Definitely check with Mark T at Engagementringsdirect. He has such a great eye for cushions and you have such a great budget I've no doubt he can find you the perfect stone.

Definitely #1 faces up nice a large for a 2.1 c as well, but don't know how well it will perform with all that green. ASk the gemologist about the performance...the faceting is really very nice on #1. That is my favorite of the 3.

Here is a great ASET for a 2.2c J but the price is high...don't know your budget but that 2.1 on JA may be nice for what you have to spend.

If you go to www.goodoldgold.com he has tons of videos on cushion cut diamonds. Watch them and you will see which facet pattern you like the best. Sorry I always look for other stones to suggest before I read the whole thread. Someone already suggested the stone on ERD.

Have you considered an antique ring? Old Mine cut?
