I didn't mind that diamond because it didn't seem as crushed ( less rounded center) than the others. And yes I do like the more elongated look! PS I love the diamond you posted!

I would not call this chunky.

The one you posted is crushed ice. The chunkier ones are the ones with bigger "chunkier" facets. like the one I posted and this:

better one:

Yours is definitely crushed iced no matter how one looks at it. Compare it to the ones 4Diamonds posted to see what chunky looks like.

Chrono, I am who referred the OP here, and went through multiple different types of cushions with her. She then went through some searching and when she found one she liked she posted it here for people to help her, as I am not a cushion expert. She already mentioned why she liked the diamond she posted, and agreed 04's picks were more her style and beautiful. I think she is considering purchasing one posted.

I think your comment is a bit snarky, and restating something already stated isn't helping our newbie find a stone.

E, super excited with the help you've been given! Hopefully more will chip in, I was told there was a beauty sold not just 2 says ago for an awesome price! I wish we started this search sooner on the forum!

:wavey: hi 04!
she really likes this one! thanks for helping out!

Sure! I'd put it on hold and request an aset image. Does your friend know about the discount JA offers PS members? It's between 1-5%, but that depends on the stone, so I'd check with them. Good luck!

Side note, I don't think that Chrono was trying to be snarky, she's very helpful with fancy cut stones. I had edited my post a few times, so it's possible she didn't see what I had posted.

Editing again** I guess I can't spell after 9pm :loopy:

Ok - last thing... A lot of newbies encourage more opinions, so even though someone says their opinion, they'll wait to see what others say, especially others that have been around longer and have more posts. They tend to be more experienced so their opinion may be more valued over others. No ill intentions..

I really like the one from 04diamond! Have you watched some of Good Old Gold's educational videos? He is definitely not a fan of the "crushed ice" look but some people are (have also heard it referred to as "sparkling glitter" or something like that). Personally I also prefer the chunky facets as well. I think you can definitely find something above 0.9ct in your budget. Do you have any color preferences?

James Allen and ERD as posted have great chunky cushions. Good Old Gold is another great source for good cushions, and Old World Diamonds could be another option as well if you can sift through the occasional lack of pictures and contact him.

hi esracedi!! chunky cushions are gorgeous, you have great taste! are you looking to learn more about chunky cushions, or would you like us to help you search for one? If the latter, have you tried contacting Mark at Engagement Rings Direct? He has helped out tons of PSers, and his prices are very reasonable. I don't know much about chunky cushions either, which is why I would suggest you contact Mark, and review them with Mico.

Have you also considered other chunky cut stones like old miner cuts or old mine brilliants? If so, I would also direct you to Old World Diamonds (www.oldworlddiamonds.com) and browse the old mine and antique cushion sections. For some reason the links to their diamonds change pretty regularly, so it might be best for you to look at them with Mico, or contact Adam directly.

Something also to keep in mind about chunky cushions is what your color tolerance is. Some people are super sensitive to colors while others like myself don't really notice that huge of a difference unless comparing two diamonds. Cushions tend to show color a little more, so it might also be worth seeing if there are jewelry stores in your area that have cushion cut diamonds.

I hope we can be as helpful as possible for you here!

I don't care for the crushed ice faceting on the stone you posted. To get an idea of which type of faceting you prefer on a cushion cut, as there are so many different facet patterns.
you can go to goodoldgold.com and watch their many educational videos on cushion cuts.

Here are some nice ones with crisp distinct faceting on JA that are in your budget. Usually The more shallow the larger the stone will face up. Some of these are antique chunky faceting and some more modern faceting. The high crowns which make a pillowy cushion stone are highly desirable. Only you can determine which type of faceting is most appealing to you. You can ask JA for ASETS on three stones that appeal to you and from that you can determine which stone has the least amount of leakage and will probably be the best performer.

The 1.11 F is beautiful faceting but 74% depth is rather deep for a cushion cut.

Since you don't like the antique look, and seem to actually like the more modern cuts, how about the "X" factor cushions at ERD? http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/a-cut-beyond-antique-cushion-diamonds/ Is that something that's more "you"?

Or what about GOG's "modern cushions"?

Just linking random cushions that I think you're trying to describe.. They're not those "mushy" crushed ice looking types, but are still considered crushed ice, me thinks.

OH HEY! This one is over 1 ct, and $5k after wiring discount?

If these styles aren't what you like, please try and describe what style you're looking for beyond using the word "crushed ice". I think that term is used without much of a clear definition, so it gets easily confused. I still am not 100% sure what it means

Have you checked out Charmy's cushion guide? https://www.pricescope.com/communit...rience-in-making-a-harry-winston-halo.183473/

Mico,
I make no apologies on my comments whatsoever as I do not see it as snarky at all. Note that not everyone here knows the backstory. I, for one, did not know that the OP had gone through several stones already. My intention is to make sure the OP is well aware of the difference, nothing more and nothing less. Since I am regarded as unhelpful, it is best that I no longer post in this thread.
