cushion color help please

Hey all, Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy new year to all the wonderful folks on here who spend so much time helping others. I''m considering the purchase of a large (3 ct +) very well cut cushion, but can only afford a warm color in this weight and cut (somewhere in the K-L range).

I love how these stones look face-up, but don''t know about my warmth tolerance when viewing them from an angle.

I''m interested in a Tiffany inspired Legacy setting. I''ve been told by several persons that, when a very well cut stone is set in this type of setting, the warmth will be MUCH less noticeable. I''d be interested in comments from people who have a warm stone set in a Legacy or similar setting, and of course those of you who have seen a warm stone set this way.

Hi and welcome! I think many women would just die to have 3 carat cushion so kudos to you for that! I personally love warm color cushions, but in my experience the larger the stone is, the more the warmth will show - even if it is well cut.

I also think that halo settings can actually also highlight the warmth of the stone. If that is what you are looking for, then go for it. But if you are trying to "hide" the warmth, surrounding the stone with a white diamond halo could just call more attention to the fact that it is warm (unless that is what you are trying to do). If the stone is warm and you don''t want to call attention to the warmth, what about not getting a halo or maybe having a yellow diamond halo instead?

Just a few ideas.

Cushions by and large increase the face up color - so if you want colorl-less then look for another cut / shape

Ditto Garry and especially in such a large stone, the warmth needs to be something you embrace, if not then as Garry suggests maybe another shape and a higher colour might be better.

I would tend to agree that some cushions tend to increase color appearance (especially the modern cuts that are cut similar to Fancy-Color facet design)..., but some actually appear brighter (less-color). It would depend on their facet structure and angle combination applied.

Especially in the old-cut arena where quite numerous of them do appear much whiter than their (IRL) profile appearance.
