I''ve got another quote from a jeweller for my cushion ring - this is what he''s offering -

Cushion
HRD Cert
0.62c
H
VS1
Finish grade - Good
5.30mm by 4.76mm by 3.32mm
Girdle - medium 3.5% faceted
culet - 0.7% natural
table - 69%
cr height 9.0%
pav 57.5%

He offered to do this stone in a claw set ring with 8 .1 pave set in white gold for $A3750. I don''t know why but my gut instinct makes me feel there''s something not quite right. Are HRD cert stones as reputable as GIA?

He sent a pic, I''ll see if I can post it

I am probably the dummy here but I have never heard of HRD certs???

I don''t know how many get to the States... They are as popular in Europe as GIA is and I have yet to hear that their grades slack in some way.

I am not sure if the grading procedure they follow is the same as GIA''s. HRD abides by the ISO standards which GIA shied away from

I just have a bad feeling about this guy - he told me that if I wanted a rectangular cushion, I had to compromise on depth...he said that they cut cushions according to ''set measurements'' and that depth had to be sacrificed to get an elongated shape.

He just seems a bit dodgy so I guess I should trust my feelings and say no. I just really want my ring!
