Hello,

I posted a few weeks ago when I didnt know what I want. After lots of help from you guys I've figured out exactly what I want.

A loose stone that has the dimensions of 9 x 7 x 4.5 approximately (i'm not too concerned with carat size I'd prefer a more rectangle shape cushion)

GIA certified

Color E-G

Clarity VVS1 - VS2

Can anyone help me find one?

I am based in Chicago.

Thanks Rockers!!

Budget? The size you want is about a 2.7-3.3 carat stone. So that's about 35-60k. Is that your budget?

Also cushions that are 9x7 are gonna be a little tough, if you want good performance. Most cushions are a bit more square than that, the length to width ratio just isn't there in cushions because it results in too much of a bow tie. Do you have any flexibility there? Would you consider an 8.6x8.6 like this for example (I realize the color is not as high as you want, it's just for reference): http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1279813.asp

This one is 9x7 ish: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS2-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-863616.asp

But if you are REALLY adamant about 9x7 I wouldn't go for a cushion. Cause you are gonna end up with a dog like this one that has a bowtie you could drive a truck through: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-IF-Very-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1328949.asp

I want to be clear. I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS STONE. But it meets your criteria. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS1-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1427269.asp the table is huge, the faceting is very busy and I just don't think it's going to be firey or lively.

I ALSO DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ONE: But it also meets your criteria: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1487038.asp it does not look like a stone that returns light well. It looks like a stone that sucks it up and keeps it. LIke a black hole. Which isn't what you want. BUT it fits your criteria.

Again, please do not use the words "gypsy recommended".

I would get this one. The faceting is super lovely. a 9x 7mm = 63 sq. mm
This one is approx. 8x 7.5mm which = 60 sq. mm and will look very large. I've looked at JA's cushion and this one beats all the rest hands down IMO...no matter what the size is.

Here is an H SI 1 that is 8.22 x 9mm Color and clarity do NOT make a beautiful diamond...CUT is KING and the cut
is what makes a diamond beautiful and perform like you want a great diamond to perform. H color will still be nice and white...Check out the Megascope reading on this 3.19 sparkler.

Hope this helps.

another one but only 7 x 8 but really nice faceting

so sorry for the late reply i've been out of town

Ok so why would you not recommend a 9x7? I just think the more rectangle shape suits my fingers better than a squarer shape.

Also what does a bow tie mean?

I don't also know what you mean my chunky and thick faceted?

thanks for your help

You don't know enough about diamonds to be spending several thousands of dollars on one. Would you buy a car with so little research? No. So why buy a diamond?

1. I have nothing against a 9x7. But you can't buy fancy diamonds by their measurements. Not if you want them to sparkle and shine and perform. If you want a lifeless blob of carbon on your fingers, buy a cushion by measurements. If you want a diamond that sparkles and shines then you need to put performance first.

9x7 is not a common size for cushions. Because elongated cushions can have performance problems. Like bowties. So most will be more square than 9x7. Like 8x7. If you want an elongated rectangular shape I suggest emerald cuts.

2. This stone here has a strong bow tie. Please see the pictures half way down. This is a performance problem common to elgonated brilliant faceted cuts (step cuts avoid this to an extent. Emerald cuts are step cuts): https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/need-expert-help-is-this-a-good-stone.181131/ dead zone in the center of the diamond shaped like a bow tie.

3. Chunky and large facets refer to the style of the facet arrangement. Some cushions have smaller facets and a lot of them, some cushions have larger facets and fewer of them. Here is an example:

Chunky, large antique style faceted cushions:

Modern faceted cushions with smaller facets:

See the difference?

Thanks so much gypsie that is so much help. I do prefer the more rectangle shape I feel they suit my finger better than the more squarer shape.

You're right I don't know enough about Diamonds even though I have done a lot of research it just seems like there is so many things to know.

Can I ask your opinion on the 2 that I'm looking at? These are the pictures. They are both GIA certified.

I really appreciate any help and insight you can provide on these.

Thank you so much!

(I don't have any more information or pictures and am going to look at it today)

Would you have any insight on what i've sent you? I have posted pictures of Stones 1 and 2 .

Thanks Gypsie!!

The E is the better one of the two there. I wouldn't go for a J with that type of faceting (crushed ice) because that faceting traps color. The G one looks dark right in the center.

Thanks Gypsie - the E is the most expensive too unfortunately.

I don't have any info on the J one I'm going to see it today. I think its too low in color.

Do you think they're good stones other than that?

I agree that the E is better. The G looks dead in the middle to me too. I would bet that's part of the reason why the E is more expensive, other than just color...

Thanks Gypsie I have my heart set on a cushion!

Thanks Distracts
