the current issue of martha stewart wedding magazine is featuring engagement rings and has a part where they go into the 4 Cs. what was nice is that they focused on Cut! it was the first C they talked about and gave it props! too bad they didn''t go into more detail but at least they put it as the first C for once.

most of the article is online on her website

Deconstructing Your Diamond

I was looking through the issue the other day. Not a word about the benefits of buying online

(or PS for that matter!) But, I enjoyed all the eye candy especially the Harry Winston the the cover.

ah yes, i know what you mean but at least in this article they put cut before the other Cs. i rarely see this. so the tide might be changing in baby steps :)

yes, i loved the eye candy - i was drooling over the oval cartier on this page - fifth row, second over

Maybe baby, hope so.
But the commentry was pretty shallow. Nothing about how to get a good cut, or even an attempt to define it.
Symmetry will not give you a good cut

Ah, but does it teach you how to do insider trading?

Ah yes, the very talented Martha Stewart.

I am not a big fan of Martha Stewart but the article is not that bad. At least it does not say thaty you have to spend 3 months worth of salary on a ring or that only the "very best" will be good. And one thing I did like: "thin styles do look sweet on small hands; and broader ones on bigger hands" This for me debunks the common misconception than thin bands on big hands will make your ring/stone look bigger.
