There’s such a thread in the diamond forum, so why not start a colored stones version?
Often, interesting or unusual stones come up that don’t have a dedicated place to be shared, yet would make interesting or amusing discussion.
If you find something uncommon, cool, offbeat, or just worth a look - whether for good or bad reasons - post it here :)
Can be unique due to cut, material, treatment, inclusion, etc... Anything, no rules!

Hoping @tyty333 is OK with me importing her idea to the CS forum (if not, happy to remove)

I'll start:
Brazilian Alexandrite - but a sugarloaf cut and cats eye in one.

This is fun! I bought these butterfly wing cabs awhile back. You see them everywhere, usually in tourmaline. But these are natural sapphire with odd coloration and chatoyancy. I thought they were unique!

Thanks for participating, Autumn!
Butterfly cut in sapphire with unique color AND chatoyancy - beautiful and unique.
Any setting plans? Earrings or too big for you? I have a different shape gem but with similar general mm size. I love them, glad I own them, but no idea what to do with them.

Reminds me of this 1+CT natural untreated butterfly cut intense pink diamond :oops2:
Already posted on the diamond thread but I think it fits here too!

Welp, I have a new item to lust over. :eek2:

Oh I forgot to answer your question! I might make a pendant with them eventually!!

From Lotus IG. TLDR – emerald and alexandrite in 1 stone.

So is it now 'emerald by day, emerald and ruby by night'? :lol-2:

Full post:
"You may be aware that many emerald deposits also produce alexandrite. But did you know that they could occur together, in the same faceted stone?

It is exceptionally rare, but one such example recently made its way to our laboratory where we had the chance to perform an in-depth analysis.

Using fluorescence microscopy and micro Raman spectroscopy, we discovered the stone is composed of about 75% translucent alexandrite (in two sections) with a transparent emerald zone nestled in between.

Anyone heard of chambersite?

Moh's 7 which is high for such obscure material.
But it is rarely facet quality, and always tiny if clean (around 2-3mm it appears). Beautiful triangle crystal roughs.
Bigger cut ones exist but they are heavily included.
A kind of pretty grayish purple/purple taaffeite color.
I think I might ask a couple dealers at Tucson to look for something like this. I'm a fan of this kind of stuff.

There are almost no images of this material online that is faceted/clean, but here's what I found.

Looks like you missed it by just a couple days because it was available when I posted it - maybe they removed the listing and will list it back?

From my history this is the link to it when it was up:

Odd that they removed it instead of having it showed up as sold like the rest of their sold stuff.
They sell intl via Buyee- maybe theres some English customer service?

Regardless, indeed its a one of a kind stone.
