On its face, no problem.

Curious: What are you trying to determine?

Hi John,
I upgraded to a stone with the angles mentioned in the original post and want to make sure it is going to be beautiful, as I am second guessing myself. I don't want to make the same mistake twice, as I had a "steep deep combo 35.5/41.2 . I noticed that 14% angle which I never checked earlier until today.

No need to second-guess. By the basic numbers you're moving from an AGS3-4 candidate to an AGS0 candidate. The specific performance of your new diamond will depend on the sum of its details, but you are fundamentally moving into a category of higher light return.

Thanks so much, John for your help it is greatly appreciated as I have read a great deal of your comments to others. That's good to know but what do you mean.... "depend on the sum of its details" ? Could it still underperform ? Maybe it will only be good in fire, but great in brightness? :errrr:

On critical exam while I had both diamonds to compare, they both looked bright but after critical exam saw that the new stone looked end to end white -- larger, and also no white on IS view. Hard to tell about sparkle. The old, trade-in stone looked like there was a piece around the girdle at times missing. With the bright lights of the store it was difficult and hence the reason I'm so nervous.

specs: 34 crown
40.8 pavilion
58 table
60% depth
thin-med girdle 3%
GIA xxx
8.63-8.66 x 5.18
no culet
no flour
50%
80%
14% crown height

You're welcome. I'm happy to help.

Not to worry... I suffer from chronic COCD (cut-obsessive-compulsive-disorder). I obsess about every facet of a diamond, so it's pretty standard that when I make a macro comment on PS - based on a few data points - I tender a disclaimer about the unknowns. Everything you have indicated looks great.

Your observations make sense. The 40.8/34.0 combination appears larger because it is returning light from edge to edge. The "piece missing" from the other stone could easily have been a maximum deviation from the averaged angles, creating an area of reduced or no light return.

Thank you so much , John for your time in answering my questions and concerns!! So appreciated!
