Getting my feet wet into the diamond game and trying to learn. Found this potential RB and would love your thoughts. This would be for an bezel set solitaire engagement in platinum.

This diamond has a 1.0 HCA. I also put this in the diamond screener cut estimator and it looks to be right on the borderline for AGS ideal and GIA excellent. Potential issue is that the vendor does not offer any advanced images so no more info there. Thank you for your time!

Proportions wise everything looks good. Do you have access to the actual certificate? I'm wondering if it has a blue nuance. I'm seeing lots of blue in the stone.

I see what you mean. You can see it in the 360 image, too.

This is the only other information from the report:
Hearts and Arrows
No indication of post growth treatment
No Fluorescence
Type II (No a or b listed)

It is an undisclosed blue nuance (Type IIb - traces of boron present). If that doesn't bother you, then it's a beautifully proportioned diamond.

Price shows around $5800...recent price drop, perhaps? Seller is a good one, so you can always buy it, test-drive or for a week or three, and return it if you don't thoroughly fall in love with it.

You can see the blue twinge when viewed from the side, out near the crown/girdle area:

I know you can see it in the diamond, but how can you tell from the report? I don't see IIb anywhere. Am I missing it? Also, how did you find the report with the information she gave? Inquiring minds want to know, lol.

The diamond is very interesting. It's got lots of mermaid colors showing up like an oil slick on a puddle after rain.

IGI usually won't list diamond subtype, if they list the type at all. It's just something I've made a habit out of checking most E and F color HPHT diamonds.

I found the diamond from the seller, which I was pretty sure of based on the photography and background used, so I went out and looked and, sure enough, my hunch about which seller was correct. I won't post it since it's not on hold in case chemicalrocks wants to buy it.

Thank you both for your thoughts. Frankly, I'm not sure if this would bother me or not. I looked at some other photos online of stones with blue nuance online and some look quite steely. I suppose I could order and return. Here is another similar stone, a bit more expensive. Doesn't look as blue, but I would think the lighting for the video would make a difference.

Another beautiful stone. I agree it looks less blue overall, but I'm still seeing lots of it. There is lots of yellow/gold showing up as well however.

Very, very nice! This one appears to be a Type IIa.

Have a peek at this one - arrows image indicates near perfect light return. May want to contact them immediately and put it on hold so you can think about it.

Another two....

Any reason why you're looking at VVS clarity? All VS1 and most VS2 are going to be just as eye-clean as any VVS. A lot of SI1 below 2ct will be, as well (depending on the type and positioning of any SI1-sized inclusions).

Very nice, thank you for the suggestion.

No reason at all. I would be fine with something more included. Eye clean is a must. When I looked at some mined diamonds in person VS1 looked great to me. I suppose it's the magnification in these online photos and videos that scares me away a little.

That's great news! I think you'll be extremely pleased with it! If you end up buying it, I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts and impressions as well as seeing pictures/videos, if you care to post once you receive it.

Here's a link to the grading report, which has a high resolution PDF link near the bottom:

Here are the images for your records if you want them, should you decide to buy it:

Gorgeous!

I will certainly update with photos and review. Any reasons why I investigate going with JA for a custom ring? What I want is seems fairly simple, solitaire Pt bezel with milgrain like below.

You can start a new thread in Rocky Talky to ask this question about settings where there is more traffic. I think you're likely to find out more that way. From what I've learned here over the years I'd suggest you reach out to David Klass who does beautiful work and is priced well. Just avoid using the words lab grown in your post (It is after all a diamond), to avoid breaking any PS rules.

Also reach out to Jon (Rhino ) at Distinctive Gem and see if he can tailor something like this to match your picture with round diamonds. He can also do a solitaire bezel milgrain setting.

Am I crazy for taking it to an appraiser/gemologist to confirm the purchase? It’s basically nothing compared to the price of the diamond.

Are you talking about taking the setting to an appraiser? I would have the diamond set and take the whole ring to get it appraised afterwards.

The stone looked great to me. I didn't fuss with it so much as I was afraid to drop it out of the holder it came in and don't have nice tweezers to hold it, so I didn't take any photos or videos of it loose.

It's on the way to be set! I will post some visuals then since I will feel more comfortable handling it.

Thank you for your help!

Awesome - really looking forward to seeing pictures of your finished ring!
