Hi All... I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I've been reading the posts for the last week or so to gain some knowledge and it's been extremely helpful. I'm knee deep into the process of purchasing a custom engagement ring for my girlfriend and like every other guy in my situation I want it to be perfect. She knows what she wants, which is a combination of 2 rings she's seen. She created this ring years ago, well before she knew me. Anyway, my issue is that I'm worried when looking at the ring from the top the prongs are dominating the diamond. Here are some pics so you all can see what I mean:

Do you think the top of the prongs can be modified so it doesn't look like 4 big squares around the diamond?

Thanks All

The effect might be lessened but will not go away completely because the prongs have 2 sided pave all the way up. It needs the thickness in order to have enough strength to hold both the melees and the center stone. You might be able to make it smaller at the expense of not having the melees come all the way up to the top but that is a totally different look, which I don't think is as attractive.

Here's a thought - I don't know if this is possible or not but can the square space be filled with a tiny melee so you don't have this big piece of metal staring you in the face?
