i have a lovely, and huge, opal pendant that I adore. I have worn it with various gold chains but it’s bale hole is fairly small so I’m limited to thin chains. I felt it needed something more. I had a idea. I bought a few Ethiopian opal necklace and loose ones and I’m going to create a necklace out of opals. I’m going to create a pair of earrings to suit. It’s a work in progress.
Please be careful with those small opals. Opals are very fragile and can not take a lot of wear and tear and weight. You may consider spacers or bigger knots to keep the opals from rubbing against each other.
Thanks, yes, I know opals are soft - only 5 - 6 hardness. It’s to be a short necklace and the big opal basically “sticks” to my skin (a bit weird but it’s big and flat,) so there’s not a lot of movement / stress. I’m stringing on nylon as wire i think is more abrasive. It’s only a “special occasion” necklace.
