Thanks DH! I was I initially leaning cluster, but now am not so sure. Luckily we can take our time with these things! I sure hope I know it when I see it!Hi leukolenos,
What a terrific thread - so interesting and so many options! My sense is you are leaning towards a cluster, but I could be wrong
Since both halo and cluster will give you the finger coverage, I would suggest that you will be in love with whatever you choose. Don’t get Analysis Paralysis! Find what makes your heart happiest and leave the comparisons to other people out of your thought process. In my experience you’ll know it when you see it - keep hunting!
LadyM's has a nice bezel around the center that provides a nice differentiation. You don't have to do a full bezel but if you look at this picture you posted there is a milgrain circle around the center. I think if you did something like this, but with a yellow gold line around the center and then had the surrounding stones angled the way you see below it will give you a differentiated look without a bezel.

Here it is!!
I hate analysis paralysis. I get it all the darn time, ARGH!!
Haha thanks JDDN!!! It’s the worst and also kind of embarrassing. I’m thankful for this support group, I mean forum, of likeminded people. I said something to my husband about resetting this and he looked at me like I had three heads and asked me why on earth I would want to fix what’s not broken.
I do like the scallop of that hallo. It looks so graceful to me. I think sometimes the prongs in cluster rings look sort of weirdly pointy.
I feel like both of these stunning examples are just reaffirming my desire for a wild ruby ring rather than a reset

know that feeling all too well. How can it be that once we were so sure we were totally in love, crazy about a stone, a ring, then suddenly we just want to sell?
If I were you I would think twice though about that. You have an unusual, stunning stone. You can make something out of it that will be very unique and something not so many people have. But I am very partial to yellows and an OEC in that color is to die for but this is subjective. If you know for sure that you want something entirely different say a white MRB or whatever white AVC that is a different story.
But one thing that worked for me when I went crazy in my head with thoughts of not knowing what to do and feeling compelled to do something right now, I let it go. I put my piece away and amazingly when I took it out a couple months later I was again in love but knew what I wanted changed. Just a word of caution so you do not sell something like this so quickly and then regret it.
Aesthetically I think this stone lends better to a halo or a cluster than a three stone because of the look, age of the stone. A cluster would be very consistent with the era, a halo would add a unique/different touch. This is purely a question of subjective preference what you choose. All options are gorgeous.
I love your ring, it is classic, it is gorgeous
How about just save for a new RHR?
If you ever sell that stone I’ll be first in line! I’ve looked for a yellow OEC forever!!!
I need to make a thread on my ruby! I reset my grandmothers ruby into a antique style cluster and I LOVE it!!! Of course now that that itch has been scratched, I’m lusting over spinels now.... I love yours! You have an enviable collection!Oooo. Can’t wait to see what kind of ruby rhr you come up with!
I have a red spinel rhr that I love and give me all the finger coverage I want ... for now.
