Hi leukolenos,
What a terrific thread - so interesting and so many options! My sense is you are leaning towards a cluster, but I could be wrong ;-)

Since both halo and cluster will give you the finger coverage, I would suggest that you will be in love with whatever you choose. Don’t get Analysis Paralysis! Find what makes your heart happiest and leave the comparisons to other people out of your thought process. In my experience you’ll know it when you see it - keep hunting!
Thanks DH! I was I initially leaning cluster, but now am not so sure. Luckily we can take our time with these things! I sure hope I know it when I see it!

LadyM's has a nice bezel around the center that provides a nice differentiation. You don't have to do a full bezel but if you look at this picture you posted there is a milgrain circle around the center. I think if you did something like this, but with a yellow gold line around the center and then had the surrounding stones angled the way you see below it will give you a differentiated look without a bezel.

Yes her bezel definitely adds some definition. It has a double row of milgrain I think? That’s a good point about the example above, maybe the peek of that milgrain seat would set it off a bit more. I think I’m going to email Caysie and see if she has any great ideas and follow up with some others as well.

Haha thanks JDDN!!! It’s the worst and also kind of embarrassing. I’m thankful for this support group, I mean forum, of likeminded people. I said something to my husband about resetting this and he looked at me like I had three heads and asked me why on earth I would want to fix what’s not broken.

I do like the scallop of that hallo. It looks so graceful to me. I think sometimes the prongs in cluster rings look sort of weirdly pointy.

Or if we’re really talking a need for finger coverage do this lol

When I first discovered PS I was going around and around with whether I should reset my diamond or if I just wanted a different diamond. My husband was not thrilled. And when I found PS I told him excitedly that "I had found my people" and boy was that true, LOL!!

Well, if you can I would encourage you to try some different styles on. You already have a three stone, but maybe try on a cluster if you haven't already? If you love a cluster, then I say go for it :rolleyes2:.

I feel like both of these stunning examples are just reaffirming my desire for a wild ruby ring rather than a reset

:D:confused::twisted: know that feeling all too well. How can it be that once we were so sure we were totally in love, crazy about a stone, a ring, then suddenly we just want to sell?

If I were you I would think twice though about that. You have an unusual, stunning stone. You can make something out of it that will be very unique and something not so many people have. But I am very partial to yellows and an OEC in that color is to die for but this is subjective. If you know for sure that you want something entirely different say a white MRB or whatever white AVC that is a different story.

But one thing that worked for me when I went crazy in my head with thoughts of not knowing what to do and feeling compelled to do something right now, I let it go. I put my piece away and amazingly when I took it out a couple months later I was again in love but knew what I wanted changed. Just a word of caution so you do not sell something like this so quickly and then regret it.

Aesthetically I think this stone lends better to a halo or a cluster than a three stone because of the look, age of the stone. A cluster would be very consistent with the era, a halo would add a unique/different touch. This is purely a question of subjective preference what you choose. All options are gorgeous.

@Sunstorm you have talked me off the ledge a bit! I don't really think I have the heart to get rid of it. Yellow diamonds have always made my heart skip a beat. When we were first engaged, I couldn't decide between a canary diamond and a sapphire cluster ring. Ultimately I decided on a fancy intense pear three stone- it was completely demoralizing to lose it. When I was upgrade shopping I found a 5ct fancy yellow old mine and about had a heart attack so I knew I had to have a stone like that. I will always love yellow stones and old cuts so this combines the best of both worlds. So this has come back to the same decision issue I had ten years ago! Three stone or cluster? So really I need to decide if this stone is going to be my cluster or if I'm going to go for a colored stone cluster.

But I do think you have a really good point about a cluster being period appropriate. Having something more contemporary to the stone is very appealing.

Oh, that´s a hard one. It seems that you are also a die hard fan of yellow diamonds. There is always that in the back of your mind what if you had chosen a sapphire instead? And this seems to be coming back. However, every time you have chosen a yellow diamond and you have been leaning towards old cuts. Perhaps it is that you are wanting a different shape? Something more contemporary in a halo? Or an unusual mix like that amazing ring of @msop04`s? Did I make it any easier? :???:

Well, anything subjective like CS or CD (as in colored diamonds lol) is not something I can comment on as I am a die hard fan of CD-s but I have a bit of a wild idea. What if just what if you think of making two rings? Say halo or make a cluster of your current yellow or if you really want perhaps another shape one in another shape and make a RHR with a sapphire? I mean that would most likely still bring you under the cost of creating a moi et toi. More expensive than just one ring but it could satisfy your cravings and you do not have to make the second ring right away.

Because I am thinking what if you change it completely and really regret? Is it just the craving something new, the rush of excitement we feel about that? So I thought perhaps as I said above doing a CS RHR perhaps after this project or doing the CS first will tell you. If you do the sapphire first, you will know if you miss wearing the yellow diamond. Not that I would go this route but maybe that would be a test. Or wear your yellow diamond as is now with the new sapphire halo or cluster ring and see if that does it. Now I tossed out quite a few idea, not to confuse you. o_O

Not confusing, it's helpful to talk through it.
I have zero regrets about not choosing the sapphire cluster first time around- at the time I knew nothing about CS and it was probably not a very nice one! And I was completely crazy about my FI pears.

I do love elongated stones so that's probably part of my itch...so whatever comes next will have to be an elongated stone.

Ok so maybe we reset the canary in a cluster and save the current side OECs for a colored stone rhr. Or sell them to fund the cluster

I love your ring, it is classic, it is gorgeous :love::love:
How about just save for a new RHR?

Thank you, @cflutist !! That’s the plan actually. Hashing it out on this thread was immensely helpful. Now I’m looking for a ruby cluster! :Up_to_something2: Not sure whether it will be better in the end to choose an intact antique piece or hunt for a ruby and then go custom. I’m leaning towards the latter since I’ll be able to get exactly what I’m looking for setting wise, but ruby shopping has me shaking in my boots!!!:???:

If you ever sell that stone I’ll be first in line! I’ve looked for a yellow OEC forever!!!

Oooo. Can’t wait to see what kind of ruby rhr you come up with!

I have a red spinel rhr that I love and give me all the finger coverage I want ... for now.

You never know! I have been toying with making a change but am still mulling it over.

I need to make a thread on my ruby! I reset my grandmothers ruby into a antique style cluster and I LOVE it!!! Of course now that that itch has been scratched, I’m lusting over spinels now.... I love yours! You have an enviable collection!

.

FVY ?

It would stand out more by colour alone & against a white diamond surround etc.

I am talking of a particular OMC - WWW
