Craigs List Ad -- What do you think?!

I hope it's OK that I'm posting a Craigs List ad that I'm considering!

I found this posting on Craigs List in my area and the person e-mailed me back letting me know that the ring is still avaiable! What do you think? I also am going to ask if she would consider $3,700.. Is that too lowball of an offer?

I don't know about the ring (although I think it looks nice for the (potential) price...but I love how the ad says the price is firm, but negotiable.

Haha, I thought the same thing too when I read that the price is firm, but negotiable. Thanks. Hopefully I can get some input from the experts here. I did ask the seller to send clear pictures of the diamond.

Are you OK with very visible inclusions? Personally, I wouldn't care if it were 10 carats at that price, big black spots are a deal breaker for me.

My work e-mail is down, so I can't get the exact wording, but the response when I asked about the clairty was ...there are some inclusions that are barely visible to the naked eye. I mentioned that I would like to see the stone in person before making a decision.

I've had two diamonds before which were higher in clarity. I have actually never seen a diamond IRL on the lower scale in regards to clarity, so it's hard to say if the visible inclusions would bother me or not. I guess it depends on how much it affects the diamonds appearance and fire itself.

You're buying the ring on the secondary market. I'd want the price to be less than what I could purchase brand new so I'd make an offer and not go in at full price if you are interested. I think people list items higher than what they intend on selling it for on Craigslist because the lower you price it the lower the offers are (I sold a piece of jewelry on CL and that was my experience). I would definitely check it out in person before making any commitment. I'd just advise you to keep in mind this is not an GIA or AGS Ideal stone so it's not an amazing deal for the price. Going lower in clarity and cut does gets you a bigger stone though, and that may be what you are seeking. I'd just make sure you are comfortable with what that cut and clarity grade look like with your own eyes.

Pixies - Thanks for your input! I was searching G, I1 diamonds on ebay to get a better idea of what the diamond may look like and it really made me rethink what it would look like if I were to see it IRL. I know that it would be ideal to get a diamond certified by GIA and that EGL has looser grading standards.

I saw this diamond and saw that it was $4k for a nice size although on the lower clarity scale and thought maybe, just maybe it could work. I might have been a bit overzealous when I saw the price.

I am still waiting on pictures, but I think it may be a bust anyway.

I think a good deal is a good deal when you're getting a great price on a quality item that you would buy anyway (outside of a place like CL). I think that this is a diamond that most of us would pass on. Besides the I1 clarity issue, it's cut parameters are way off. Better to say, thanks but no thanks.

There are lots and lots of I/J/K color SI2 clarity stones on our vendors lists with superior cut specs to choose from. Those stones are a great deal for the price.

I've def. decided this deal was not much of a deal at all. The person selling it was very sketchy. I asked for pictures and more details on the diamond and they response I was given was, what jewelry store would u like to meet at? My whole e-mail was disregarded, so I haven't answered since.
