I recently let a maul jeweler clean my ring and all three stones (my center round and both pear sides) were loose afterwards. I was naturally pretty upset because my stones were all firmly in place before I handed over my ring and I've never had a problem with it in the 2.5 years I've worn it. I am normally much more protective and will only let a trusted jeweler clean my ring and I was just kicking myself for letting them touch it!
My ring was made by Thomas Nevin Jewelers but they are a 3 hour drive away, so I brought my ring in to Craft-Revival here in Grand Rapids, MI. Brandon there tightened everything up, gave her a good steam clean and a polish. When I asked him how much I owed him he said nothing, just to let them take care of my ring from now on. I almost hugged him! I was so relieved that it was such a quick and easy fix. I was really impressed with his knowledge and the craftsmanship of the pieces they had there. Needless to say, he is now my go-to guy for jewelry and I'm even thinking about having him make a custom ring for my graduation.
I'm definitely new to the world of fine jewelery and my jewelry box is pretty sparse compared to most of you. I have enjoyed lurking around pricescope and it's nice to know some of you would understand how upset I was when my stones were loose (my mom/sisters didn't quite get it). I don't know if there are any other PSers in the Grand Rapids area, but has anyone else heard of Craft-Revival? I tried doing a search and didn't come up with much. If anyone else has heard of them please speak up!
