Hello All,

newbie here. I'm really not sure what I'm doing. Could anyone give me suggestions on a couple of good diamonds for my budget? Any suggestions for the biggest, brightest I could get under $2500 would be very much welcomed! I keep picking stones but all the details are tripping me up. If the stone is excellent cut but has very good polish does that effect the performance of the stone? And if I drop by clarity to SI2 does this mean that I should be concerned about the structural interity of the stone? I'm so confused. :?

I would look for a well cut G-H SI1 GIA/AGS graded stone.

I think VG polish is fine. Structural integrity in SI2 diamonds needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. If there is an eye clean SI2 that you're interested in, then ask the gemologist (if James Allen) to see if there are any structural issues.

If you're not color sensitive, you can go down in color to an I or J. Here's one from BGD that has strong blue fluorescence which will help the stone face up whiter: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.704-j-vs1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104063639027

Thanks sortmon. I've been looking at pricescope search so much I really didn't know where else I should be looking. This seems like it would be a beauty.

Check out these vendors:
James Allen
Good Old Gold
Brian Gavin
Whiteflash
ID Jewelry
Engagement Rings Direct
B2C Jewels

Look for diamonds that score below 2 on the HCA (unless these diamonds are AGS Ideal). If you find those diamonds, ask for Idealscopes (JA will only give you 3 so choose your diamonds wisely). Post the images here for people to evaluate.

Unless you know what you're doing, I'd limit my search to GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal cut diamonds only. Here are some loose guidelines from diamondseeker2006:
table: 54-58
depth: 60-62.3
crown angle: 34-35.0
pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

To get the biggest diamond, you need to figure out the lowest color your eyes are comfortable with. If you can, visit a jeweler and ask them to show you GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal diamonds in a range of colors (including J). As a newbie, don't look at diamonds certified by other labs as other labs are usually looser in grading.
