Could this be the one?

I stumbled across this site and have read some great information. I have been looking for a ring for a while now cause she wants a cushion cut and there doesn't seem to be an over abundance of them. I found this ring:
-Helzberg Radiant Start center diamond
-Center stone: cushion cut 0.75ct
-Color: H
-Clarity: I1
-76 round accent diamonds 0.625ct
-14kt WG

It has a GEMEX report for the center stone and also an IGI certificate which from reading around here may not be the best one.

It originally sold for around $8k from the store, and I know that is way over priced but if I could get it for around half, would it be a good ring?

If the IGI report is saying the center stone is an H-I1, it is probably at least an I/J and I2... for $4,000 I am certain you can do better.

As a quick example, just checking the James Allen website, here's a GIA 0.80ct H-VVS2 radiant priced at $2,740 - http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/radiant-cut/0.80-carat-h-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-194913 - and two settings which JA likely could customize to fit the radiant - $1025 http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engage...ond-engagement-ring-princess-center-item-6815 and $1350 http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engage...halo-engagement-ring-asscher-center-item-3287... [Not claiming these are the best options from JA; these are just what I pulled from a quick search that seemed reasonably priced and better-quality than the ring you posted]

And that was just a cursory search... if you wanted to put PS forumites to work for you, just let us know your budget, the stone parameters (must be radiant? or square? or what?), and ring setting preferences, and members will post their best suggestions that fit your preferences. There are members here who are experts in radiants who I am sure could find you a gorgeous stone.

Or, if you really like that ring you posted, if there is a reasonable return period, buy it and take it to an independent appraiser (Resources tab above) for a professional, objective opinion so you know exactly what your $4,000 is buying you.

No I would not but this stone. An I is going to have very visible inclusions, or worse, structural issues. I think you can do better. Is 4k then top of your budget?

I can get the ring for around $3,200, and I would like to stay in the $3-$4k range. That ring is the ideal one and cushion cut is what is desired.

At a $3k price, would I still be better off to avoid this one and find something with better quality?

Thanks for the responses.

A narrow band split shank with cushion cut center stone with pave diamonds is what is really desired or one similar to the picture.

depends a lot on how large the cushion faces up and how lively it is. What are its dimensions?

5.65 x 5.16 x 3.45

That ring is garbage and I wouldn't buy it if it were 90% off. There's far too much darkness in the center and buying anything from a place like helzberg (for an engagement ring) is a bad idea).

That is the one she has decided on. I sent for a price quote last Friday, but never heard back. I will send another one, but roughly what do you think the cost of that one would be?

I went around to some stores and looked for a similar setting and didn't really find anything but I did also look at some loose diamonds and they seemed to want much more for them than online (which I expected) but the quality seemed poor on most of them. I noticed imperfections in them with my naked eye and I have only read about them. I'm assuming the best way to go would be to also find the diamond online. Once I do find a diamond, what does it normally cost to get the stone set? I guess I also need to find a reputable jewler to ensure that I get my actual diamond and not a swap out or is that something I shouldn't have to worry about much as long as somebody isn't doing it from the trunk of their car?

Thanks

i would bet around 1500. I would buy the stone from good old gold. they will not change you to set the stone. so win win. Did you like any of those ones from gog? if not. Email tell them your total budget and what your looking for, and they will find you stones

That is a beautiful setting! The price will vary depending on the metal you choose. I would call GOG at this point so you can discuss diamond and setting. I think they get a massive number of emails and it is just faster to deal with it on the phone.

I sent another request earlier today and I'm guessing the first one may have went to my spam folder or something. For 14K WG, it came back as $2,750...that seems a little or a lot high actually to me. Am I just misjuding on what the price should be, or should I try to find a similar one? Anytime I go to a jewelry store, they always say just bring a picture in and we can make it. Should I just see what they say, I have always been leary of this because I wouldn't want to pay until I see exactly what I'm getting and I'm sure it doesn't work this way.

Is there somewhere else I could check to see about getting a setting like this?

Thanks

no, that is about the right price. split shank is more expensive. Beverly K is antique style, there is more going on, which adds up.

If you don't want to spend that much, you should look at the Ritani halos I posted above. They are simpler.

She really won't go with that split plain shank? That's going to give you the most bang for your buck I think.

I am surprised its a thousand dollars more than ones from bev k I've seen that were single shank. What metal were you quoted?

Any of those ritani would be great they are high quality!

You know, this is just a very rude comment! You are entitled to your opinion but it's just tacky to be so blunt, hurtful and disrespectful about it.
