I was hoping to find out some pricing info on recutting stones, specifically a 6.98 citrine and a 2.5 amertrine. I would love to have Richard Homer cut them as I drool over just about everything he does, but I would imagine he would be quite pricey.
Any ideas of what recutting costs? Thanks in advance!

Depending on the cutter and his fame would be the cost to recut. You can have a stone like this recut for $2.00 in Thailand or China, $40-$100 for local cutters in the US. I have paid $200 - $1,000 to Richard Homer depending on the material, size of the stone and how much cutting needs to be done.

I've been wondering the same thing - yingh had a rhodolite recut recently (from an oval to a modified square brilliant, like VelouriaL's tourmaline) and I pm'ed her to find out how much it cost but never heard back.

Thank you guys so much, this is great info. Here are the stones in question - think they''re worth it?
The citrine has me a little worried because of the feather on the bottom right corner.

Hi Paula,

Most citrine and ametrine are cut in Thailand since the material isn''t expensive. To have it cut in the US would be more than they could sell the stone for. I wouldn''t have it recut.

Along these same lines. I was wondering, does Mr Homer take in cutting jobs through his web site? I had a pink sapphire recut by him it was a 1.83ct. after he worked his magic it was 1.48ct. It was concave faceted. The cost was 300.00 dollars. The recut turned out very well.

Another question...regarding an ametrine (or bicolor tourmaline, for that matter): would Homer''s concave cuts sort of obliterate the "bicolored-ness"?

I would call him or Wink on the recuts. You do have to send him the stone so he can decide what it will cut and how much work it would require.

I''ve never seen a concave cut on a multicolored stone.
