I stumbled across these two photos on Facebook and have been thinking about them all day. I find them absolutely amazing. I sincerely hope it doesn't bother anyone to see photos of children's skulls. I do not mean for this to be a morbid post, just anatomically fascinating.

Having no knowledge of dental a&p, I'm guessing the roots of baby teeth dissolve, which leads to them becoming loose and subsequently falling out? Because some of those teeth look decidedly longer than I ever remember coming out of my mouth! Then, as the mandible is the hardest bone in the body, the remaining holes left when adult teeth come in must fill in and calcify? Do we have any dentists here?

Wow, looks like this person had some serious orthodontic issues!

No, to the best of my knowledge this is normal. These are children's skulls, with all of their adult teeth still in their jaw waiting to come through.

A nurse not a dentist, so can't help, but that was totally fascinating!!! Awesome how nature designed out bodies - a lot of pre planning went into the tooth growing experience, didn't it??

Thanks for finding that interesting photo, JustGinger!

That is just fascinating! To think adult teeth are stored in the jaw all ready to pop, what an amazing piece of design! The bone must be fairly thick to keep them from working through to the sinuses. Wow, thanks for putting that up, JG. Really cool!
