It’s been a back and forth thing for me in terms of picking a setting. I was going to have one designed using stones from existing rings (that I plan on resetting anyways), but due to sentimental reasons coupled with logistical reasons, I have decided to just get a setting that already exists.

This ring is going to be worn as an alternative to my original ER which was designed specifically for me.

Ok, so now the questions. I’m considering two James Allen settings with two different kinds of prongs. I’m not intentionally rough on jewelry, but I need it to be sturdy because I’m a mom and teacher who is constantly on the go getting her hands in the mix of things — whatever needs to get done!

One ring has shared u prongs on the band for the side stones and the other has “cut down pave”. I *think* the latter is the more secure, but before I make a decision, I just want to make sure!
Also, both of these are 4 prong and my stomach is 1.16 carats so im

I'm not seeing the shared prongs on the 2nd ring, looks like both have 4 prongs on each diamond. The first one might be better for durability, as the stones around the crown might get knocked into...

Sorry maybe I was confusing in how I wrote the post. I know there are only four prongs in the center stone, I’m pretty sure should go 6 there.
BUT....
The stones in the band are shared prong and those are what I’m most worried about falling out.

Also, you make a good point about the crown diamonds falling out!

Funny, because I have considered the exact same settings! I eventually went with a different one. Two things on these two:
- the first one has a thicker band (do you like that? The diamond might appear smaller since the band is thicker.)
- About the second one: the prongs are situated in a style of "east-west" - not the traditional one. Also, it has an invisible halo (unlike the first one.)

It comes down to what you like (Invisible halo but thin band with east-west prongs) or (thicker band?)

Yes!!! This!! The thickness of the band is EXACTLY what I’ve been struggling with, too!! My diamond isn’t that big and I don’t want it swallowed up by the side stones.
I like the invisible halo, but I’m afraid those teeny stones would pop out on me. I had pretty good luck w two well-constructed micropave bands, but after seven years, I finally lost a stone. It makes me mental. Lol
I don’t really like the East-west prongs, thank you for pointing that out!

I went to my local jeweler today with my stone and talked settings, mm for the band (we said 2) and price. I left feeling confident I had arrived at a decision and was just going to sit with it before pulling the trigger, but I was just examining the stone again and weighing out adding a halo . Lol. I already have a Daussi-inspired radiant halo ring, but I know that if I get this made into a solitaire in the stone doesn’t look sizable it’s going to irritate me because my hands are not small. :(.

thanks for reading and relying!

I ended up getting a setting from Whiteflash (a designer one.) I really loved one from BN but the price was more than the designer ones elsewhere. I think picking the setting was the biggest issue. Much bigger than the diamond because with the diamond, I know exactly what I want (as far as the color, cut, clarity, measurements.) But the bands are a different thing. One needs to see them in person. (at least that was the case for me as we all have different hands.)
Like you, my fear is to lose a diamond from the band... and mine has 72 of them
