Considering an upgrade

So for our next significant milestone, DH suggested that I start thinking about what I'd like. It'll be a while but he knows it takes me forever to think through the options, which I enjoy immensely, as anticipation is half the fun.

I don't think it makes sense to split the budget to upgrade both as the change won't be substantial enough for me. If entire budget is spent on one or the other, I can go from 2ctw studs to 3ctw studs in I/SI range OR go from 2.3ct to 2.6-3ct solitaire in I/SI range. All ideal MBRs.

I really like my current stone and setting. It's a little ball of sparkle and good size for my lifestyle but bigger is better plus I see it more than earrings. The current studs are great but my earlobes can carry bigger and I won't get to appreciate them myself as much as the ring.

Thoughs? Suggestions? TIA :wavey:

I'd prefer a ring upgrade since I can see that more frequently than studs. But it's all good whichever you upgrade!

I'm going to go a little against the PS grain, and ask you to reconsider the upgrade. Obviously, I love diamonds as much as the next PS'er, but I absolutely love the proportions and lines of your current ring. A 3ct diamond would be gorgeous too, or 3ct studs--but, your pieces are really beautiful. I wouldn't change either, and would consider a fancy colored diamond RHR. To answer your questions strictly, though, I'd go for the ring, because I find I really enjoy the rings that I can see more than anything else.

I would personally choose the ring so that I could see it all the time - and I don't really have a desire for large diamond studs. Nice dilemma to have, have fun deciding!

I'd say go for a rhr or a different new piece. Your ring is gorgeous and you said you really like it. Why change it and risk not liking it as much as you do now?

As much as I love the upgrades I see people do, I think it is also important to know when you love a piece. I also really love the idea of new pieces to celebrate big milestones.

If you decide to do an upgrade, I'd lean towards earrings since you love your ring but say your ears could hold more.

Thanks thecat and junebug, I agree that the ability to view the bling at all times has the greatest appeal.

Indylady, thanks for the compliments! I do love the current stone, that's why this is a difficult choice. RHR is an option that's there but a distant third just because I'm not sure I'd get enough wear out of it to justify spending the upgrade budget. I'm all about cost per wear ;))

TooPatient, thanks for your thoughts. Current stone is great and I'd hate to regret seeing it go. I'd hope to find something even better but it's possible to not be as happy with the new stone. I'm just not sure that a new piece will get enough wear or be what I'd want given the upgrade budget.

I would consider getting a new item.
Diamonds of every size are beautiful, and at 2.3 you already have a very sizeable daily e-ring diamond.
I vote time for another piece to love!!

My e-ring is 1.6, and when I got my larger stone (3+) it would have made a lot of financial sense just to swap it out.
But to my surprise to my own diamond-loving eyes I found the larger stone looked ridiculous and inauthentic as my e-ring.
I keep it as a pretty-much-identical RHR and I love it, I wear it most days.

I would do the E-ring upgrade... :appl:

Hi baby monster! I'm also big on cost per wear so I vote for ER upgrade. Your current ring is gorgeous but if part of you wants a larger diamond and you can afford to I say go for it!!! You never know when you might have the opportunity again so if all the stars align then my vote is for upgrade of ER as long as you find a diamond that you love even more. Nothing gets worn more than the ER for most people and you can admire it every day.

And I agree. The anticipation and planning is a large part of the fun of the project!

As much as I'd love to keep both, that isn't in the cards at this point so the current stone will need to be traded in. The consideration of whether 3ct is just too big for my lifestyle is definitely important as I don't want to feel unsafe or uneasy wearing the new ring.

Thanks DF and missy for your thoughts. I would be a bad PSer if I say a part of me doesn't wish for a larger ring :cheeky: .

Go for the 3ct! ,b/c diamonds will shrink about .13ct per year... :wink2:

I checked your Ering. The setting is very, very nice. If you upgrade the diamond, the setting will be wasted (or at least lose money). the diamond is 2.3 ct, which is already large enough. To make the upgrade worthwhile and more readily noticeable, you need at least 3.2 ct size. From the cost/benefit perspective, upgrading Ering does not make sense to me.

Now, let's discuss your studs. Again, 2cwt size is already big enough. I can see upgrading from 1.5 cwt to 2.5-3.0 cwt, but not from 2.0 ctw. If you want bigger size, you can always get jackets.

Besides Ering and studs, the staples are tennis bracelet, RHR, necklace, and eternity ring. if your collection is missing any of these, consider getting one of them.

I would upgrade the ring. It's true you can't see your ears so the studs would be for everyone else's benefit. You will see the ring and can enjoy looking at it much more!

I have just bought some smallish OEC studs and I've no intention of upgrading them as I can't see them. :))

I'm gonna vote earrings. I think you'll notice a MUCH bigger difference between 2cttw and 3cttw earrings than the upgrade to your ring, and I bigger studs would look smashing on you! And really, all you need is a mirror at your desk and you can admire them all day.

FancyDiamond, thanks for your thoughts. I do have some of the other items you listed and would rarely wear the others so they would be very expensive in my cost per wear mind. I think I'd see a difference when going from 8.5mm to 9mm stone.

Thank you Maisie and athenaworth for a vote in each category. I think it's running 50/50 at this point :naughty:. I can't even begin to think what my co-workers will think if I install a mirror and begin admiring my earrings :cheeky:.

Yes you will.. :wink2: Go for it!!.. :appl: Is your Ering stone from WF?

Having upgraded my own ER last year, I say go for the honker 3ct ER while you can! :sun:

Thanks DF The Enabler of bigger bling . No, the stone is from IDJ.

I don't hear a pendant mentioned anywhere in this thread. Doesn't your neck feel bare? I'd spend the money that on a nice diamond solitaire pendant to match current e-ring and studs!

What is their upgrade policy?

mom2boys, timing is everything!

jaysonsmom, I have a small pendant that DH gave me many years ago. I really like and upgrading would be spending money on something I can only see in the mirror.

Don't think there's an explicit policy. When the time comes, I'm sure we can work out something so that I can spend more money there .

I would do the ering upgrade if I could go up to 3.3 or above. If not, I would keep saving up. I would definitely consider a tennis bracelet if that fits your lifestyle, and wear it next to your watch on a daily basis. Hard to decide whether to upgrade on studs. I really like my stud size, 2.3 ctw, and I don't really get to see them. So I probably wouldn't upgrade on studs now.

Or, I would consider a Love bracelet... Just throwing it out there... ;)

I'd go for a ring upgrade because you will notice it more than the earrings. And going from a 2.30 to around a 3.00 is a difference that you will notice!!!!

I'd upgrade the ring! 3 cts is a fabulous size - you'd never need to upgrade again.

Three carats is a wonderful size but she's on Pricescope. There's always another upgrade!!!!

I vote for upgrading the ring. You can look down at the ring a thousand times a day,
