Hi --as many of you know I am considering an upgrade for my EC and I have a 3 plus carat currently. I want to go to 4/5 but there arent alot out there that are that appealing. I found a couple but this one looks particularly good initially. I do not know the crown height or anything else yet nor have I seen it.

Concerns: 1-I have it in my heda that its bad to be right at the carat mark. What if it gets chipped or nicked and needs work and falls below 4 carats and it kills the value? 2- other sites have defined this stone as a premium cut instead of "ideal." Why would that be? and 3- my current stone is 3.18 and is 10.14 by 7.56. Is this going to look that much bigger? I found one other that is 5.07 but its a VS2 and I really want a VS1 this time. My current stone is a D VS2 and I like the idea of a D or E VS1 as a tighter better spread.

Thoughts from you all are greatly appreciated.

Ideal Emerald Cut????? Who says?

There really aren''t standards for an IDEAL emerald cut per se.

AGS will be releasing them shortly, but it will be based on light return as well as proportions.

GIA isn''t issuing a cut grade for emerald cut, so curious as to who is saying that...

well many of the vendors assign a cut grade...............and this one was assigned "ideal" --what says to you that it is not

also what do people think of Polish as one of the factors in choosing a diamond?

I do not know a lot about emerald cuts but going by the face up measurments I would pass based on the fact that this new stone does not look on paper like it would be much larger at all then your current stone.

just my .02

yes--i am thinking that as well....................thanks for pointing it out though
