Conjoined twin star sapphires

I had never seen such a thing before, but this vendor has three "conjoined twin" star sapphires and one chrysoberyl. They look real to me, and would be interesting to have as a collector's piece (I think they look a little bit too much like boobs to be set into jewelry, lol). Has anyone encountered this phenomenon? How would you set one of these?

I would build a time machine and have one of the great Renaissance goldsmiths set it as a mermaid/comet--a mermaid with the star sapphire as the breasts, and a comet tail instead of a fish tail. Or maybe one of the Art Nouveau greats instead, like Lalique or Louis Comfort Tiffany. And I would have the goldsmith give the back of the setting an interchangeable fitting so I could wear the jewel as a hair ornament, brooch, pendant, stomacher, bracelet, or ring.

The stars themselves are fairly low quality. Let’s just say if we are willing to carve a cleavage into our stars, I suppose we could all have star sapphire boobs too.

I second the mermaid idea but only if it’s a nice star ( which then seems a waste not to turn into earrings).

+1. This looks like a gimmick to sell low quality or oddly shaped material. It could be very cool if done in high quality material and used with imagination.

I doubt it. I have seen double stars in twinned or intergrown crystals, usually low quality but interesting as specimens. I don't think that's what's happening here. If you carve two err... domes into ordinary star sapphire rough, you can get two stars.

There are also very rare doubles caused by lamellar twinning (thin layers in alternating orientations). I'd love to own one of these. An example:

You can just get as many stars as you want, if you cut multiple domes along the star axis...

I've a rose quartz sample featuring a star for each dimple I've carved in it when looking at it in transmission (so technically it would be "diasterism", but the basic concept still holds true). But apparently the image hosting site I was using at that time does not have it anymore and I cannot show you right now.

(another way to have two stars on a single stone, with a single dome, would be to use two point lights, but that's cheating )
