Confused

I m looking to buy a radiant cut diamond around 1.7 to 1.9 carats F colour but do not know where to start.Should I consider other cuts too as i was told radiant does not sparkle as much as round.

Have you see any well cut radiant diamonds in person? Here is a video that shows a cushion and radiant comparison. It looks sparkly to me

Is the diamond for you or someone else? Asking because radiant desire is not a common one and you’ll want to be sure if you are giving to someone

If you like square shapes, check out cushions and princess as well. Cushions have different cuts within the shape. The video posted above is older style chunky cut (my personal favorite). Large colorful flashes of light. Then there are cushions that are cut more like modern round brilliants. Excellent light reflection with splintery white light. Finally, there are “crushed ice” cushions and the description is fairly accurate. Not a repeating pattern. Not my favorite and not that popular but some people like them.

Princess is a lot like radiant without the corners cut off. You may be able to find a good deal on a pre-owned princess, as they were very popular about 10-15 years ago but are less popular now.

Look at lots of pics and maybe check out some of these shapes. Once you have a lead shape, we can help suggest the best vendors for that shape

How do you plan on setting this stone? Is this for a ring or for a pendant? I imagine that depending on what you want to use it for could also sway your decision on what shape is best for that particular project.

Asschers, Emeralds and Radiant are all more difficult to shop for, but that does not mean that excellent stones don't exist - they just take more time to find!

Exactly this, there are excellent cut stones for EVERY shape...you just need the patience to look for it, and you're at the best place for that. PSers are amazingly helpful with helping regular schmucks like us look!

It can be confusing - sometimes it is best to take it a simple step at a time.

These have all been mentioned, but if you provide this group with a few bits of information, you will no doubt end up with something fantastic.


1. Is this for a ring or pendant?
2. What is your budget? (eg. some shapes cost more per carat than others due to the way they “emerge” when cut from the rough)
3. Each shape has unique attributes - especially in the way you see the light reflected. If you watch the tutorials you can learn how the different shapes might return broad flashes of white light vs. tiny flashes of colors across the spectrum.
4. Take your knowledge of what you want and - with the help of the PS community - you will no doubt find something sensational.
