So I got a lovely 2.63 Carat Pear with side stones in Platnium for my 10th Wedding Anniversary. (Posted Pics a few weeks ago in this Forum) And I love it, but I am a bit confused on the numbers. I just got the full appraisial and plot back. It is buy a trusted jewler who is a GIA Graduate Gemologist with 25 years experience.
The ring was from their estate case. They bought it from a VIP client of 50 years who was selling the bulk of her gems to raise money for a charity. I was one of the luck ones who got to see the collection and buy at great savings. The seller was motivated by making money for the charity and getting the rocks in the hands of people who would really appreciate them
So I have her E-Ring now.
I got the full appraisail and plot back and the numbers are all over the place. He, the GIA Gemologist, said this is commom in an older cut pear stone. This stone was cut in the late 40's or early 50's. Based on that cutting time line, he said the percentages would be very different from a moden cut pear.
Here are the numbers
VVS2
Color L
Measurements: 13.30x7.61X4.48 MM
Carats: 2.63
Depth: 58.8%
Table: 65.9%
Crown Height (Two readings) 11.4% and 10.5%
Crown Angles (Two readings) 35.2% 33.7%
Pacillion (Two readings) 45.2% and 45.1%
Girdle: Very Thin to Medium, bruted (Yikes, I know. But is had survived 50 years already and I am careful!)
Culet: Small
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Very good
Length/width: 1.75 to 1
The thing faces very white and has a ton a fire for the table size. I really like the ring so no regrets, but these dimensions seem (*from what I have read of PS*) all over the place. Is that more common in a rock cut before computer/laser aided cutting and rough plotting?
Thanks!
