Hello there. I don''t know if this is the right place to ask this. My husband and I have found a wedding band that I am totally in love with. My only issue is that we have to order it online without trying it on. My e-ring is a size 6, but it fits a bit loose (but not too bad), but then again, I''m also wanting to lose some weight and I''ve heard that makes a difference in ring size. The ring is a substantial purchase for us; roughly $5,000. It''s an eternity band, so I guess resizing is not likely. So I got to debating whether to order the size 5.5 or size 6. Is it better to size up or down usually? I think because of the price, I''m overthinking it, but I think about weight loss/weight gain, becoming pregnant, getting older (do fingers get bigger or shrink with age?), etc? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Would you be able to exchange it for another size if the one you order doesn''t fit?

I''m sure someone here may have had similar predicament with eternity bands. How snug a ring fits usually depends on the time of the day (environmental temperature) and the width of the band (thinner bands shd be ordered in a half to one size smaller than wider bands). If the e-ring is as thin as the eternity, I''d probably keep it a size 6 given the tendency for adults to put on a little weight as they grow older (slower metabolism).

But some questions you may need to consider:-

How thin is the width of the eternity ring compared to your e-ring? (Thinner bands take smaller size)

Have you had any previous experience with weight loss and its effect on your finger width? Likewise with weight gain? Depending on the magnitude of the weight loss, it may or may not affect the finger width.

Have you thought of what you would do with the eternity ring in the event it gets too loose or too tight to wear? (Just to be sure you''re certain of getting an eternity ring)

Just my opinion of course, if that helps.

if you''re a size 6 right now, is it a little loose all the time or just when you''re cold? if so, then how bout 5.75? 5.5 might be too tight? since its an eternity, spinning won''t be an issue so on the looser side i would think. if you''re too worried about future resize, how about 3/4 eternity? so it can be sized later...

Ditto. Or else I would actually go about 6.25 if you haven''t had kids yet and are young. Fingers tend to get bigger with age.

get a sizing bar.

I know your dilemma. I just bought an eternity and went up half a size ONLY because I wanted to wear it with my e-ring (I have fat fingers) and wanted the option to wear it on my right hand (which is a half sz bigger ). I got a sz 8 and now I''m able to wear it comfortably on both.

I would discuss this with the jeweler and see if you can get a sizing bar or get a 3/4 eternity band. GL

Absolutely get it loose. There are ways to make it tighter, but you can''t do much to make it fit if your fingers get larger.
