Confused newbie

Hello. I''ve been hanging around the Pricescope forums for a long time now, but haven''t had a reason to post here. But now I''m looking for a diamond in the $3K range and need the help of you experts. I''ve been educating myself about diamonds, but still feel confused when looking at aset and idealscope pictures. What do you think of the cut of this diamond - will it be beautiful? Thanks in advance for your help. I plan to be back as I compare diamonds from several vendors.

The clickable works!

It gets a 0.8 on the HCA with 3 EX and very good for spread. The idealscope looks good to me and the aset looks
pretty typical for a well cut round. So...I think you may have a winner. Call and have it put on hold before it gets
poached. I''m sure Lorelei, DD or SC (or one of the many other diamond connoisseurs) will be along shorty and give their
opinions.

IS looks good, but might have some brillianteering, cannot see the ASET color properly because of my screen.

Welcome, planet_jp! I took a look at the Idealscope for you and it looks great. I am not an expert on reading ASET, but perhaps others will chime in on that image.

I believe the diamond will be beautiful. I have an I color diamond and it is very white, a soft white rather than an icy white.

The angles of this diamond lead me to believe that it will be a very bright and sparkly diamond, with more small flashes than large broad flashes of white and colored light.

With SI1 clarity, you'll want to make sure that the diamond is eye-clean (just ask the sales rep to view the diamond for you). And are you aware of Whiteflash's return and trade-up policies, and do they meet your needs?

Hi Janet

The diamond looks good, it does look as if it has had a girdle treatment such as painting, this can enhance the desirable visual properties of the stone, check with WF as to the characteristics and performance nuances.

As to '' will it be beautiful?'' Possibly, will it be beautiful to you though? Only you can answer that. The basic '' recipe'' of the diamond appears to be sound but the only way to know if it is the right diamond for you is to actually see it, WF do have a good return policy so you are covered.

Thank you all for your responses. Brillianteering? Painting? More stuff I had to look up! I keep reading about idealscope and aset images and can''t quite get through my head what the difference is. Can someone explain it, please? When I went back and looked at the ASET on this diamond, it looked a little strange on my screen, i.e. black where it should be blue, grayish where is should be green.

Still at the office - gotta get out of here! Will check in again soon.

Basically Idealscope and ASET come under the reflector technologies. I like Idealscope images to show whether there is any light leakage in a diamond and other issues, ASET shows light return among other things. ASET is best suited for fancy shapes rather than Idealscope, both can be suitable for round stones.

This tutorial goes into greater detail concerning ASET and IS.
