You can do way better than these two. These are industrial diamonds as far as I am concerned!

What is your budget and your preferences (e.g. Do you value size over clarity or vice versa?)

We have a "cheat sheet" of numbers to stay in that usually help you end up with a nice stone.

Stick with GIA/AGS Excellent/Ideal stones.

Table 54-58%
Depth 60-62.3%
Crown 34-35 degrees
Pavilion 40.6 - 41 degrees

35 crown pairs better with lower pavilion (40.6) and lower crown (34) pairs better with higher pavilion angle (41).

You can also use the HCA tool to weed out stones. Look for stones to score 2 or under be stones worth a further look.

But thank you so much for helping me understand what to look for when buying diamonds.

I am looking to buy a good quality diamond ring with halo setting, the diamond could be smaller but minimum 0.5ct. I don't want to spend too much though, say 2500usd?

May I recommend that you save yourself some doubts and future heartache by going to a few of the better independent jewelers and asking to see some ideal and excellent cut diamonds. If possible beside a poorly cut diamond such as the two you asked us about.

When you see the complete difference that cutting makes, you will be in a better place in your mind to only settle for the cutting that makes YOUR eyes happy. Once you realize that it is not the color and clarity that makes the diamond beautiful, but the cutting, you will be ready to resume your search with information that will help you make the correct decision for YOU.
