I have always wondered what a fancy vivid blue H&A round would look like in person. When I spotted one listing for roughly the same price as a colorless H&A round I decided to settle my curiosity. Other than color, it’s very similar on paper to a lab diamond I already have.

Stones this big sit a bit high on the transparent tray I have, so the backlit ASET images exaggerate the amount of obstruction. The fancy vivid blue is absolutely stunning.

Next to a medium blue aquamarine, the color of the fancy vivid blue is reminiscent of one that’s more deeply saturated. I have hesitated for years to set the aquamarine in a ring, fearing damage. The fancy vivid blue is the perfect alternative.

I was surprised by the cut too, definitely among the best I have seen.

:oops2: I think Imgur thinks I’m showing too much skin, it keeps deleting my first batch of videos.

Thank you for sharing—fantastic comparison and gorgeous diamond.

wow I’m kinda obsessed with this blue!

Awesome FVB, 0-0-0 - the color is simply amazing!

How do you feel about the blue's performance? I know the more vivid the color, the more the performance is impacted, so I am curious to hear how it compares to colorless in a variety of different lighting

The fire coming off the fancy vivid blue is definitely more muted. The difference is biggest under strong spotlights as in 5/9 in the second batch of videos.

If you are shopping for fancy vivid blues, be aware that the IGI grade covers a pretty big range of hues and tones. The good news is that the loupe360 videos are pretty accurate for blues in my experience.

I found a few smaller well cut fancy vivid blue rounds listed for attractive prices. The vendor image/video of 3 is no longer online, but it was the lightest of them.

The small leakage area in the ASET image of 3 is not noticeable in person. In fact, 3 shows off the most fire because it’s the lightest of the bunch. 4 comes in at a close second in terms of visible fire. Overall, the differences in color have bigger impact in person than the small differences in cut. 2 has a light yellow phosphorescence that doesn’t appear strong enough to affect color in my typical lighting environments.

^ exactly what I ran into when looking at green LGDs,0-0-0 - IGI seems to have a heck of a lot of overlap with no clear/easy delineation between their fancy color categories (intense, vivid, etc).
Not sure if this is also the case with other grading labs.

I love the darker blues, but am so frustrated in my search! @0-0-0 Any tips for searching? Clicking on each blue they show on loosegrown to find the darker ones is driving me crazy! I've even expanded my search to show both vivid and intense, and as you and @DejaWiz noted, there is no delineation which makes it ridiculously annoying and tedious! At least Ritani includes the video in the grid view.

I see no vivid blue, only greenish blue.

That’s how IGI grades them, GIA may grade them differently.
