Comparing LxWxD with Setting Width

Trying to guesstimate how a particular stone will look on a setting. If the dimensions of a (1.13ct) round diamond are 6.78 - 6.82 x 4.11mm and the setting (a solitaire) is 3mm, how much wider will the stone be than the setting? In other words is the 4.11mm the diameter and, thus, it will only be 1.11 mm wider?

No, the 4.11 is the height (flat top to pointy bottom, side view). The 6.78 and 6.82 are diameter measurements perpendicular to each other. This is one way to tell if your stone is in the round. So your 3mm ring would be slightly less than half the width of your stone.

For example, that pencil on your desk has a 0.5 mm diameter graphite core! I have read the post wrongly, yes, the stone is over 6mm diameter, so no sweat: it would go more than 1mm over the width of the shank on each side. However, 1mm is 1/4 of the band's width. The doctored pic below shows what a 6.8 diameter looks on a 4mm band... All you need to produce a better simmulation is PAint (that thing in Windows' s Start/Accessories) and a picture of any diamond solitaire. My 'material' came from bluenile,since their pics are virtual models and so much easier to manipulate than the scan of a photo. Another good 'source' for a front view pic to play with is adiamondisforever.com (same reason).
