Hi all,

After a protracted search for a sapphire for my engagement ring, I was googling aimlessly around the interweb and came across this ring at Nina Elle's ebay store -

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BEZEL-SET-CUSHION-CUT-ANTIQUE-STYLE-DIAMOND-ENGAGEMENT-RING-BAND-C31-/200945092448?pt=Wedding_Sets&hash=item2ec942c760

Armed with very little diamond-buying experience but a healthy skepticism of ebay purchasing, I put in a lazy offer to buy the ring at a lower price than the Buy it now price, with an upgrade of the main diamond to a 1ct, H/I, VS2, very good cut... Which was accepted.

Now, my main concern with diamonds (which some of you will appreciate more than others) is wearing that much money on my hand! I can be quite clumsy and play a lot of sport, so have a sad history of leaving things behind... you can see why I'm nervous.

Anyway, long story short - I can live with the $6K price tag of this ring, but I just need some reassurance that:

a) this is a fair price (bearing in mind that we can't see the exact diamond - did I mention I'm in Australia?!), and
b) bearing in mind the no-see factor, this a reputable dealer.

I have done some googling, and she has 100% positive feedback on ebay (400+ reviews) and there are no horror stories coming up in google... any thoughts, comments, etc?

I haven't had the design priced by my local jeweller, but I suspect he wouldn't be able to match it. Stones are much more expensive here (or to get here) and he quoted me $2k for a simple pave/ solitaire setting only a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for your help!

S.

Sorry, I should also have said that making the eBay offer does not mean I have to buy it - just that they are prepared to sell it to me for that price... So I'm not locked in yet!

Is the main diamond properly certified by a reputable institution like GIA or AGS? It does not appear so. If not, then the stats (H/I-color SI1..etc), especially given in range, are mere opinions of the seller. I would stay away cause I rather know exactly what I am buying. Sorry.

I would not buy that ring, you have no idea what kind of diamond you are getting without any certification. Seems like a wonky kind of deal.

Don't do it! There's better deals to be had than that.

Without a lab report from GIA, the colour and clarity are very unlikely to be as stated. I also noticed a 10% restocking fee for all returns so you'll be out at least $600 just to return the ring.
