Thanks, Monarch! We needed a pie thread!
Here is a key lime meringue pie that I just pulled out of the oven

stracci,

Wow! That looks beautiful!

I'm sure its delicious, but I had to comment on your attention to detail in the presentation! Love that!

Opps! The quote didn't show the photo. Here's the beautiful pie you made.

The pies that have been posted look so good!

Add me to the list of those who had never heard of chocolate chess pie (or any type of chess pie) or derby pie.

Missy, those pies all look amazing! Did your DH also make the first pie; that delicious-looking stacked apple layers pie? Wow! That would be a meal in itself! It looks wonderful! :appl:

This may be old news to you, but I'd never seen a herringbone-patterned pie crust until a couple of weeks ago when I stumbled across an article on the internet.

I love the pattern of this pie crust. :))

Not sure if its OK to include the link to the article, but here are some photos that give an idea of how to make the pattern. It would take longer to do than a more simple crust, but I'm a bit of a nut who doesn't mind spending time on desserts for special occasions.

I'd also never heard of Pi Day; March 14, to celebrate (?) the number Pi, 3.14.

December fire, I love this herringbone design!
I've been studying the photos, and maybe I'll try it on my next fruit pie.
I love a creative challange!

Glad you like it! If you do make it, please come back and share photos. :))

Not sure why I thought posting the link might be an issue, since its about food not jewellery.
I'll blame it on reading and posting while doing other things.

Here's the link. It describes the process which, along with the photos, gives a better idea of the 'how-to'.

Just noticed a comment at the bottom of the article which says the following:

Remember, herringbone is more than a pretty face. It doubles the amount of top crust involved in a traditional lattice, which means you've got twice as much crispy, flaky pastry in every bite. Not to mention lifetime bragging rights! :lickout:

Hi december fire and thank you. Yes my dh bakes everything from scratch and it is always quite delicious even if I say so myself. :))

Closer look at the layers of the apple pie. Be prepared to get hungry. Darn I know I am right now looking at it again. LOL. Excuse the paper plate. (It was being wrapped for our guests to take home the leftovers and the fork was added for the photo LOL).

Stracci, that pie looks delicious. And beautiful presentation too!

I thought mincemeat pies were actually made with meat. Turns out that is only somewhat true--I was in the store the other day buying a (GASP) pre-made graham cracker crust and noticed on the very top shelf a jar with "NoneSuch" on the label. I looked closer and it also said "mincemeat" so I went back to my intended task but the name stuck in my head. "Some such" is a regional expression meaning "something." "Nonesuch" is also a regional thing but not one I hear often. I decided to google it this morning and lo and behold, there ain't any meat in it!

Missy, now I want some of that apple pie and its not even lunch time, yet! :lickout:

monarch, ohhhh, I love mincement tarts!

Pinto, here's some pot-less chicken pot pie for you! Well, not pie, actually, so maybe it shouldn't be posted here.

A dinner braid! In this case, filled with chicken pot pie filling. I haven't made this, yet, but I think I should. I love the 'braid' look.
