I am looking at 1.20ct, G VS1 diamond. My question is relatiing to the color of the stone. I plan to mount it in white gold, and I have heard that you should stay in the range of D-F when mounting in white gold or platinum. First, is that true? Second, what are the drawbacks of the color G in white gold, if any?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

The G color would have no drawbacks in white gold.
Color grading is done by looking through the diamond's girdle.
J color and darker would be a problem in white gold because the intensity of color throughout the stone increases.

I have (2) G color VS wedding bands that are set in white gold. Both look as white as an F.

I would, however, recommend Platinum b/c White Gold tends to get yellowish with wear and need to be re-rhodiumed. White Gold is lighter on the finger though.

Good Luck!!!
