I was just wondering how important the color is. For instance when deciding between I and G the price difference for the same size diamond seems to be close to $1,500. Is it worth getting the diamond .2-.3 carats larger, or going with closer to colorless and smaller. By the way I am looking in the range of 1.0 to 1.4 carats. I can spend up to $7,500 on the center diamond. I was looking on Brian Gavins website. Advice appreciated!

Some people feel the additional cost of a G over an I is worth it.
Others don't.

You need to go out and look at diamonds of this size in this color range and make up your own mind.
Even if 99% of the people tell you that color X is "fine", you may not agree once you've had it for a while.

Keep in mind a really well cut diamond will be brighter when viewed face up so it may conceal body color better than a poorly cut diamond.

That said, in real life I view my diamond more from the side than from the top.

Best look around IRL like Kenny said - colour tolerance is such an individual thing!

Yes, go look for yourself. Find a place that carries AGS or GIA graded diamonds. I believe that Jared''s Peerless line inclused AGS0 diamonds, which is the closest you will get to BGD''s diamonds. Look at a G and an I in a variety of lighting environments from a tilt angle.

FWIW I would and did pay moe for higher color

but compromised on clarity. You will need to figure out your own tolerances.

Personal preference of course but I would go down in color.
