I understand that for a lot of people, cut is sacrosanct. But let's say that you had to rank the following 3, how would you do it and why?

A) 2.02 ct G SI 1 that is borderline VS2 and looks very clear. GIA 3X and HCA 0.7EX. Assume $11,250 per carat.

8.26 - 8.28 x 4.96, depth 59.9, table 58, crown 33 deg, pav 41 deg, thin-med fac 3%

B) 1.95ct F SI 1 GIA 3X and HCA 1.5EX. Assume $12,700 per carat.

7.94 - 7.96 x 4.87, depth 61.2, table 59, crown 35.5 deg, pav 40.6 deg, med-slight thick fac 4%

C) 1.95ct G VS 2 GIA 3X and HCA 1.5EX. Assume $12,300 per carat.

7.97 - 8.00 x 4.95, depth 62, table 57, crown 35.5 deg, pav 40.6 deg, med-slight thick fac

I am guessing you will all put A as number 1 but I'm not sure how you would think about B and C. I'm stuck indoors due to the hurricane so I would love to read your thoughts and learn from you all.

I would choose #3 (although I'd really have to see all the lab reports to be sure of that). I prefer G VS2 over F or G SI1 assuming cut is equivalent. I would think all three stones would look about the same size.

Oh, and stay safe, Billy!

Thank you :) Interesting btw - you would take the 1.5 over the 0.7 HCA scored stone?

Yes, because lower HCA score under 2.0 is not better. In fact, some people prefer a stone that has measurements that score 1.5 over .7. In general, I probably do prefer the 1.5, but it would help to know the measurements on all three stones to really give a meaningful opinion.

No one will have the same preferences as you, but i like B, all else equal.

This was super helpful - I thought the lower the better. Thanks for the nugget. I added measurements if it helps. But can you do me a favor, if you comment on measurements, help me understand the rationale? I'd like to understand what makes something good or bad, number wise (Julie does make a good point on subjectivity, but the numbers must be telling you guys something that I'm not getting yet).

i'd choose A for the F (my favorite color) and larger diameter, provided that the SI is truely eye clean. The G VS would be my second choice because it is a VS.

Wouldn't make any decision until seeing the IS and microscopic images though.

Sorry I made a mistake - The G SI 1 is $11,250/ct, the $F SI 1 is 12,300/ct, and the G VS 2 is $12,700/ct.

Gosh I would really love to be able to compare stones from different stores next to each other. It's so hard to be subjective when you can't do that.

A for me. If I can't see it, I ain't paying for it. And G is white enough for me.

A for me as well.

#3 for me too - I like a higher crown/smaller table type (increased total crown height) over other combos. I'd be okay with either colour/clarity combo.
