so again just for knowledge and nothing more
if you have a diamond that gets a color grading say of J and it is 1.5 carats
if you cut that stone into little melee or tiny stones like .25 or so....... would the color grading remain J or because the size is smaller the saturation that makes it be near colorless would be less and it could be considered colorless? Could those little bits then be in the D, E, F range?
 
It may be an I or H. The price drop from carat weight would have to be taken into account too.
 
The crystal has not changed, other than to be smaller bits. Diamonds are graded upside down and they look at the crystal's inherent body color. The color grade would remain the same if the diamond was one large stone or many small. But, small melee tend to make perceiving color from the top harder. So, the viewer would think they are higher color by a bit.
