Hi folks!
I believe I may have nailed down my center stone purchase and am now considering rings and settings.
One concern I have is over the color difference between the center stone and the melee stones. The center stone I am going to buy online is an RB 1.5ct I-SI1. I have visited a couple local jewelers and I can actually see an obvious color difference in an I colored center stone when mounted next to typical F-G colored melee stones, at least in the ones I've looked at in the stores. But many jewelers, the forums I've searched, and the extremely helpful James Allen CSR keep telling me that there should be no visible color difference especially since the platinum setting will make the center stone look extra white. When shown online photos, I can't see a difference. But I could see a difference in person at the store. Could it be that I may have just looked at inferior rings at the local jeweler? Are my eyes just super picky? Am I over analyzing it? I have no idea if it's just me or if my girlfriend would notice it or if it would even be a problem.
I am even considering making a special request for H-I colored melee stones just to avoid the color difference. Is this a smart move? Worth the extra work/$$? Will I then have to make the same changes to the wedding band melee stones when I start shopping for one? I imagine it would look odd as well if the e-ring melee stones look a different color than the wedding band melee stones. What are your thoughts?
