I woke up with a booming headache, but reading that Coco is home and OK has made me SO happy! Good bless that little furbaby lori. She''s so beautiful and she''s home again with you where she belongs.

Just tell Coco that a lot of us can''t eat the things we used to eat anymore

..... and life goes on with a few adjustments. LOL!

COCO IS HOME!!!! She spent a whole week in the hospital and we are SO happy to have her back home with us! Here she is catching up on the mail.

Her ultrasound was normal and it turns out that she has food allergies. Our precious Vet changed her over to some prescription dry food and she has adjusted to it without any problem. She will remain on this food for the rest of her life.

Some people have told me that they wouldn''t spend money on an animal like this. I''m just shocked because Coco is a member of our family and I would no more withhold medical care for her than I would for my DH.

You don''t know what your prayers/dust have meant to me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Lori

I am SO HAPPY they found that out!!! She looks lovely and so cute on the bed, I bet she is happy to be home.

My 6 Y.O. Ellie has food allergies as well, she is on Hill''s Duck and Green Pea food - for the rest of her life. It''s not THAT much more costly, they eat less of it anyways and no more sickness!

So happy for you...........

I''m so happy for you and Coco!!!! To add to the bliss, it was a food allergy and therefore easily fixed

To anyone who says that spending money on a pet is a waste

Money well spent. Glad to hear she''s home.

Oh no!

Sending prayers..

YAY for Coco!! Food allergies is such a better outcome than lymphoma

Best of luck with her new food regimen... I hope she''s feeling better soon!!

Well, Coco is throwing up again. ALL OVER THE HOUSE! She doesn''t have food allergies after all. It is her enzyme problem. I''m giving her lactulose through a syringe in her mouth and she takes it pretty well. The lactulose is a prescription that helps her go potty.

We are at a crossroads......do we continue to let her suffer through all of this or do we let her go? She is the sweetest kitty and we are totally in love with her.

Part of me is selfish because I don''t want to let her go and I want to make sure that we''re doing everything possible to save her.

My heart is totally broken.

Dear Lori,

I am so very sorry that you and Coco are going through this. I know the pain of dealing with this is deep and cutting. We went through something very similar with our darling Billy and we did everything we could but in the end we decided to end his suffering. His heart and kidneys were failing and he was suffering and that was what made up our minds.

It was the hardest decision we ever had to make and I miss him so terribly
7.gif
But I know we did the right thing. We kept him alive as long as we knew he had a quality of life but as soon as we knew he was suffering (my sister, his veterinarian, described it as being under water and trying to breathe) we knew the time had come.

To have kept him alive any longer would have been for our benefit and not for his. This was last June and I still cry and miss him every single day.

In our hearts we know it was the right thing to do. If only we could be as humane when it comes to human suffering but that's another topic for another day.

As long as Coco has a quality of life no matter what meds, shots, etc you need to do then it is a no brainer IMO. But when she is suffering and is not enjoying being alive that would be the time to let her go.
I wish you and Coco peace with whatever decision you come to. I think in your heart you will know when it is time. My heart goes out to you and darling Coco.

Big hugs,
Missy

MANY MANY prayers for Coco.

Sending buckets of ***DUST***DUST***DUST*** I''m so sorry you''re struggling with these tough decisions.

Oh Lori.

Hugs coming your way.

Oh no, what a heartbreaking dilemma

::HUGS:: Lori, you''ll do whatever is best for your kitty - and you know best what that is.

I am so sorry. You have a hard decision ahead of you..sending you prayers, hugs, and dust for strength in this time.

Hugs and dust for you and Coco!

Big hugs and dust from me too, Lori. I hope there''s something out there that will make her better.

is she really suffering? sometimes we few our beloved companions and think they are when they are not...what does the vet say? however, a lot of vomiting can be very hard on their little bodies......if you have a good relationship with your vet, trust him/her to help you make this decision.

mz

ps so sorry.......

Loriken...what does her blood work show? Has the vet checked kidney and thyroid function? What about IBD (inflammatory bowel disease)? If test for lymphoma was negative, did vet say anything about thickened tissues or excess mucous in the intestine which could signal IBD? Has the vet prescribed prednisolone which can help w/vomiting depending on its cause?

If it''s possible to get the vomiting under control, I would try a raw food diet to see if she responds. My Maggie almost died from IBD a few years ago, the prescription diet made her worse. As a last ditch effort to save her, I started her on a raw diet and she is now a healthy 16-yr old grumpy lady.

Hugs to you & kitty.

oh lori im so so sorry

sending you and coco prayers that she recovers and her health improves...

Oh Lori,
I truly feel for you. I am going through a very similar thing with my dog. He''s on a constant roller coaster of getting better then sliding back, and there''s no fool proof cure. Either he''ll eventually recover, or he''ll get worse and continue to be miserable. It''s maddening and heart breaking, as you said. I''m praying so hard for you and for Coco''s recovery.

Matata, can you tell us your raw food diet regime?

Matata, can you tell us your raw food diet regime?

Happy to do so. I started converting Maggie from kibble to Feline's Pride by gradually increasing the raw to kibble ratio. She definitely preferred the raw but I wanted to slowly introduce the new diet to avoid reappearance of the diarrhea that nearly killed her. Then I started gradually adding in pieces of quail (from rodentpro.com) and she now eats whole prey and not the ground raw.

Maggie gets 1/2 quail for breakfast and 1 day old chick for dinner.

The Savannahs get 1 whole something for breakfast (quail, rat, guinea pig) and a couple of mice or chicks for dinner.

Once or twice a week I add a small amount of taurine to the food as well as a capsule of salmon oil. Every day they get a scoop of Cat Life Extension Mix vitamins with their breakfast.

I prefer the whole prey because of the added benefit to teeth & gums. If Maggie's condition ever declines to the point where she can't digest feather/bone, then I'll put her back on the ground raw. I trim the feathers on the quail for all the cats to avoid upchucking of feather balls but it's not necessary.

For info re: raw diet see catnutrition.org and catinfo.org. There is also the Holisticat.com forum which has a wealth of info on commercial cat food and frozen & whole prey diets.

I''m sorry Lori! Sending you and Coco lots of hugs and love!

thanks, Matata! i had done a lot of research but with the 5 cats had yet to convert to raw though i did get them off dry food and onto quality wet/canned food. i assume you have a large freezer?

any further word re Coco?

I''ll let you guys know if I hear anything from Lori. I haven''t heard from her yet today via email...

Thank you again my Dearest Friends....I truly feel your concern about my Precious Coco and what she is going through. She means the world to me and I''m watching her like a hawk.

Yesterday was horrible. She hasn''t thrown up at all today, but still hasn''t gone to the potty, either. I''m giving her normal doses of her lactulose and she''s tolerating them well. We just need a bowel movement!

We have been with our vet for over 10 years. Bonnie and Clyde were 8 weeks old when they first saw Dr. T. and they will be 11 in July.

Coco has had all kinds of lab work run recently and it has all been normal. Her ultrasound showed that her left kidney is a little smaller than her right one. Other than that, she is normal.

She started the throwing up right after we brought her home from the SPCA. We took her to the Vet for her initial check up and they ran x-rays. She was FULL of impacted feces...you should have seen it! The poor kitty must have been miserable, but you would never have known it except for her upset tummy. The Vet changed her diet then and put her on lactulose. Our Vet told us that she lacked a certain natural enzyme that is needed for colon stimulation. Without help, she will become constipated if she eats the wrong kind of food and doesn''t take lactulose.

Part of this is MY FAULT. She was doing so well on her new food that I didn''t give her enough lactulose and she has gotten backed up again.

The next step is to put her on the prednisolone.

Anyway, I''ll keep you posted. I''m just beside myself about all of this!

Big hugs to each of you....you''ve touched my heart!

Lori

Best luck to you and Coco, Lori. Your devotion should pay off! I hope she''ll recuperate.

Dear Lori,
Please don''t blame yourself. This is not your fault. Sending buckets and buckets of healing dust to darling Coco!!
Hopefully she will get better real soon!
Big hugs!
