Unfortunately coated diamonds (not irradiated/HPHT) are now being sold in the UK. I have seen blue, green, yellow and pink. They appear to be coated all over and not just the pavillion.

However, I haven''t seen them in a brown/cognac colour. My understanding was that brown/cognac/champagne (sorry to use these terms) are normally speaking natural. So, can brown diamonds be achieved by:

(a) coating or
(b) irradiation/HPHT to achieve this colour?

If brown diamonds are the least expensive making one brown would lower its value.
Why do that?

I totally agree Kenny but only if the diamond is unsaleable in the first place because of it's colour or clarity. BUT look at it another way ..... what if you want a more uniform or attractive colour in a diamond that would otherwise be a yuck not even champagne sort of tone? Would it then make sense? If you had, say 50, matching diamonds could make sense because you'd achieve a multi brown diamond ring.
