Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of Dec

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

Ahhh, nice picture! She looks so pretty and sweet! I really and truly think a 2 ct. ideal cut is just fine (unless like I said before that all her friends have 3 ct. rocks!). I told you earlier that I'd much rather have the 2 ct. H VS2 than a larger but lower color or clarity one. Both WF and GOG can get that Vatche U-113 setting but time is running out. WF does have an in-house setting that is very pretty if Vatche says your timeline is too short:

or same one with small diamonds on the shank:

This is my setting. I'm certain this is the one. I prefer it to the vatche. So I need a WF stone now?

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

You've chosen a lovely setting. I also prefer that one to the Vatche, actually. Best of luck finding the perfect diamond for it =)

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

I have a GOG-stone with vatche setting and a WF-stone "legato" setting chosen. Calling both in the AM. Aside from the published discount, do either of these guys negotiate?

Steve

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

I like the Legato, but just FYI it won't allow a wedding band to sit totally flush next to it because of the donut sticking out. Some women don't care, but others might mind. Not sure if it would bother your gal.

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

Hi :wavey: I've been following your thread and am excited to see your outcome! A 2.4ct range is not too blingy and I think this size would look absolutely perfect on her. I can just see it from the beautiful picture of her. You 2 look lovely!
A nice classic solitaire with an over 2ct :twirl: is what I envision on her. It sure will be floating on her hand with no distraction! I also would not worry about going down to a J color, but you would definitely need to take a look at both colors and decide. You can view several stones before you buy and also the PS vendors have a great return period, just incase ;)

For an "I" color: these 2 get my vote:
GOG: 2.40:(I-SI1) (8.56-8.59): $25k http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/10108/
WF: 2.22: (I-SI1) (8.41-8.43): $26,6 http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2787740.htm

For a "J" color, these 2: (The 2nd one is a major money saver and it looks beautiful - its confirmed eye clean as well)
BGD: 2.23 (J-SI1) (8.37-8.43) $21,9 http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/2.237-j-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104062031003
JA: 2.25 (J-SI1) (8.45-8.47): $16,7 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1542553.asp
enlarged image: http://www.jamesallen.com/DiamPics/RO86731pic.jpg Also, It gets a 1.5 on the HCA and the size is perfect in my opinion.

All the best of luck to you! I will check back for sure :halo:

Generally, no. They give wiring discounts and/or Pricescope discounts, so make sure you mention you're on PS.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the stones mentioned here, and I love the WF setting. I hope you're enjoying the excitement of the process, because I think you're doing a wonderful job. :)) There's no doubt she's going to love whichever combo you choose. :appl:

Great! I can't wait to hear what you decide! I think if you buy the ring and setting at GOG they will give you a discount on the setting. They offer a special bank wire price and they do offer a military discount, but I don't know how much. I'm not much help! Haha! Seriously, GOG offers so many awesome return/upgrade policies and competitive pricing. WF also has some good policies for upgrades and I think they are offering a free gift which purchase right now. They also give a PS discount and/or a new customer discount.

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

I vote for the GOG stone with the Vatche setting (I am much more partial to 6-prong settings though!).

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

I vote for the ideal cut around 2 carat stone. Just from the kind of clothes she is wearing (understated) and she is small boned, I think she would be more likely to wear that size than if it veered too large. Ps - You are a very attractive couple!

Never hurts to ask especially since you are trying to decide between two. I am glad you loved the Legato Sleekline setting! It is a beautiful one!

It may be too late, but as Christina said, if you love the Legato, you might like the Vatche Caroline better for the GOG stone or even the WF one since they both carry Vatche. It is 4 prong.

Best of luck to you!!!

The Legato is lovely, and you can't go wrong with the stones you're considering.

It's too bad your girlfriend can't follow this thread to see all the thought you're putting into her engagement ring. I'm sure it would make her week!

Good luck!

It looks to me like the shank on the Legato tapers as it approaches the head. I'm guessing that width at the bottom of the shank matches the "donut," which would allow the wedding ring to sit flush against the e-ring - or if not, that it's only a tiny offset.

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

I agree. I think the Legato will allow the band to sit as close as the Vatche one. I like a small gap so that it doesn't look like one wide band anyway! Plus that means that the two rings rub together in a much smaller area!

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

The Legato is a beautiful setting! Personally I actually prefer it to the Vatche U113 because I love the elegance of cathedral shoulders on a setting. If you're looking at it and feel sure it's the setting, then go for it! Having seen the picture of her, I do think a cathedral-style solitaire is probably more her style - still classic, but not quite as traditional as a Tiffany style setting.

You and your girlfriend make an adorable couple - I am sure she will be thrilled with the ring you're picking out for her!

Ditto exactly!

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

So I made the call. I really liked the legato setting. By far my favorite so in the end i was locked into WF. The tiffany clones are nice, but i'd rather have something that was beautiful on the merits of its own design instead of beautiful as a close approximation of something famous.

http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/legato-sleek-line-solitaire-engagement-ring-729.htm

I'm still second guessing myself on the J stone, but I don't think either of will be too sentimental about changing it if needed.

Here are the runners up and my plans to change if we desire.

and
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2787740.htm

If the stone is too large, we'll have them change it to the 2.03 IVS2 and if the size is awesome but im unhappy with the color i'll swap it to the 2.24 I VS2.

I pushed pretty hard for a deeper discount mostly because im pathological about not paying retail for anything. They pretty much held firm, in the end, i got them to move about 1%, I think they just wanted to make me happy, which i am. I'm not the guy who got put together by a pretty sales girl in a jewelry store.

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

The retailers we recommend on PS usually have really low margins, so you can't get them to go much lower, if any, because that actually cuts into their operating budget. It's not like maul jewelers where there's a 3x markup and they then give everybody a half-off discount and are STILL making a higher margin than PS vendors. And if you really wanted to not pay retail, you could have bought a used ring.

eta: I don't mean to sound harsh but, like, if a jeweler has a 1 ct H I1 priced at 8k and you get 2k off, you're still overpaying by 2k even though you didn't pay retail, so that's an incident where even though you didn't pay retail you still got ripped off. So I was trying to make the point that paying a fair price, if retail, is better than just being concerned with not paying retail.

Sounds amazing!! Congrats! I hope you'll post some handshots after the wedding.

I know:) Only charities can stay in business without turning a profit. Its just part of my character. I spent a lot of time at swap meets and garage sales growing up and haggle as a reflex. I'll have the ring in hand by Friday, Dec 21st. I can't wait.

Re: Clueless guy needs help--getting married on the 27th of

Let me mention one thing...all those alternate stones may not all fit in that setting. Maybe since it is a stock setting means they will take it back and make you another one? But I think you'd need to get another stone very close to the same size to use the same setting.

I am sure it will be a gorgeous ring! :appl: (But I wish we could have convinced you to go with I color! ;)) I love both of the alternate stones!)

WF offers a 30day inspection period. I discussed it with them already.

Gah! The order didn't get placed until after the wire deadline, I could still probably change it...Let me also add the WF reps Victoria and Brian are VERY grateful for the endorsements they get from pricescope forum members.

Gorgeous!!! A Big Congrats!!
I think this 2.22 J-SI1 will be a killer stone and between an I and J ACA stone - sorry no difference at all, unless examined loose and from the side-in my opinion. So dont change it!!

I think the setting and that stone will be absolutely breathtaking! I am excited to see you post some pics and hope you and your fiance-to-be are very happy with it! :appl:

Agreed--stick with the J! It'll be very white!

Well, I am kind of outnumbered! :)) I just don't like seeing tint in a round brilliant stone personally and was trying to help you avoid the potential hassle of sending it back, etc. But the important thing is that you and she are happy with it, of course!!!

The picture of the 2 ct stone in the Legato is gorgeous!

I agree with DS too, I would have definitely picked the I stone over the J for an engagement ring. I wouldn't want to have to go through the hassle of exchanging it if I wasn't happy with it...
