I typically clean my engagement ring every couple weeks by soaking it in dawn dish soap and hot water and then use an ultrasonic toothbrush head to clean around the prongs and basket. I’ve recently noticed that when I peer directly into the table of the stone there is some cloudiness observable at the outer edge at an angle. I assumed this was grime build up around the pavilion which is hard to reach in the setting. I increased the intensity and frequency of cleanings, by soaking for longer periods of time and adding in ammonia free windex but alas the build up has not budged.
While this is probably only noticeable to my eye, my diamond OCD has kicked in. Do any PSers have cleaning recommendations or solutions for tough to reach areas on stones? I can also purchase an ultrasonic but am not sure if it will be effective if my toothbrush hasn’t done the trick.
Ultimately I can send it to JA for inspection and cleaning but the last time I did so it took 2 months for it to be returned. Given the current restrictions in NYC I’m sure turn around times will be delayed further so I plan to wait until the situation has stabilized.
